Document fraud is a serious crime in Canada.
It is against the law to lie or send false information or documents to IRCC. It’s called misrepresentation and can involve either falsifying or altering documents, such as:
• Passports and travel documents
• Visas
• Diplomas, degrees and apprenticeship or trade papers
• Certificates of birth, marriage, final divorce, annulment, separation or death
• Police certificates
You are responsible for all the information in your application, even if a representative fills it out for you. If you send false documents or information, we can refuse your application and forbid you from entering Canada for at least 5 years, among other consequences.

Today, we announced legislation that would extend Canadian citizenship by descent past the first generation. This would:
• Provide citizenship to people born abroad to a Canadian parent who was also born abroad with a substantial connection to Canada after the legislation comes into force.
• Allow access to a direct grant of citizenship to children born abroad and adopted by a Canadian parent who was also born abroad.
• Give citizenship back to “Lost Canadians,” their descendants and anyone born abroad to a Canadian parent in the second or later generations before this legislation comes into effect.

We’ve approved a temporary measure to extend temporary resident status for potential nominees identified under Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) who have work permits expiring in 2024. These skilled workers are filling key job vacancies in Manitoba, and actively contributing to the province’s economy and diverse cultural fabric.
This temporary measure will authorize 6,700 temporary workers identified and supported by Manitoba to continue working while the province considers their PNP applications. We are committed to stabilizing permanent immigration while reducing the percentage of people in Canada who are here as temporary residents.
