Scoperta is a collaborative/open-source project focussed on robotics, with dual missions of education and discovery. Scoperta Senior is a set of designs, software and technologies, based on Arduino, that provides a large, rugged platform, electrically driven, capable of carrying hundreds of pounds for hours between charges. This is human-sized robotics. We have a rolling art exhibit called "Moving Furniture", which is powered by Scoperta, using the Senior designs. Moving Furniture is exactly as you might imagine it - a fleet of living room furniture that is driven by joystick! Our fleet currently includes three easy chairs, two loveseats and a coffee table. We also have a small robotics platform called Scoperta Junior, which we use to teach robotics in as little as 4 hours in a workshop format. Scoperta Junior is also Arduino-based, and shares many similarities with the senior platform, at a reduced size and much less cost. Scoperta Junior is currently on it's fourth design revision. Scoperta started out as a rather ugly armchair, mated to a motorized wheelchair base, built from salvaged parts. The original chair even made it down to Burning Man a few times before it found a new home in the community of Protospace in Calgary. Scoperta is proud to call Protospace, in Calgary, AB, our home. This is the premier maker-space in Calgary, and there's always a lot of cool projects and even cooler people around Protospace. Check them out at protospace.ca and https://www.facebook.com/groups/43079798204/
We hope to grow community around the concept of education through discovery. Workshops, tutorials & podcasts will be posted here and on our website, so stay tuned for updates!
