Stern tie with @jalinnac in Smugglers Cove, Sunshine Coast.
One of favourite anchorages in the Salish Sea, tiny entrance just wider then a boat opens up into multiple football field and tennis court sized pockets of water, surrounded by cliffs and trees.
Being such a tight spot, you need to drop your anchor near the centre of the body of water and pull your boat towards the shore with a stern line. There are plenty of strategically placed eyes and chain to attach you’re stern line. This keeps your boat fixed in a single position, rather than swinging around you’re anchor from the current and wind. This allows for a lot more boats to enjoy the space together.

Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park(Indian Arm) means “Serpent’s Land.” It is in the core of Tsleil-Waututh traditional territory that has from time out of mind been an area of significance to the Tsleil-Waututh people. For over a millenium, the Tsleil-Waututh Nation has continued to use the land, water and resources of the entire area of Indian Arm.

The language we use to describe the places we live and go matters, especially to the First Nations.
From now on I’m going to be referring the area that I operate Eagle Sailing in as the Salish Sea, in recognition of the Coast Salish people that were here first.
It doesn’t take away from us being able to respectfully explore and enjoy how beautiful it is here. If anything, when we see this land and sea through a First Nations perspective, it should improve our ability to see the beauty.
Out in the middle of the Straight last fall bringing Easy Goin to her winter home at Gabriola Island.
Easy Goin is old school, she has a hank on jib, meaning metal clips(jib hanks) that run up the leading edge of the sail, the “luff”, that keep the sail attached to the forestay, the metal wire that runs from the bowsprit up to the top of the mast.
There is a lot of jargon on sailboats but for a very good reason, everything has a very specific place and role to fulfill. I really like the word “luff” for the leading edge of the sail, that’s where the power to move the sailboat forward comes from and the first place the sail starts to flutter or luff if the boat is headed up to close to the wind and starts to lose power.
Looking like I’ll be doing the return trip from Gabriola to Vancouver at the end of April. Stoked for the season and the collab with @thecanadiancake for catering the charters. Get your private charter with Easy Goin and Captain Trev booked now, it’s going to be busy this year!!

Always one of my favourite times on a summer charter is to drop the hook(anchor) somewhere epic, have a swim and cook up some food.

Sea legs.
People often ask why a guy from the Prairies loves the being on the ocean so much…they’re not so different really, both flat and windy!!
My love for the water started by spending time at Candle Lake, Saskatchewan, my families home away from home. Fishing, canoeing, swimming and playing on the beach. My first experience sailing was there too! I was really young, it was really windy and wavy so naturally I was terrified and didn’t try it again until 20 years later 😂
I was very fortunate to have that experience growing up. Spending time away from the city, adventuring in wild and natural environments. It’s a foundation that inspires me everyday.
I really appreciate the beauty of those spaces and do my best to protect them. Consume less and leave no trace.
Time to get outside 😎
Sunsets by calm water are the best.

Vitamin Sea from the bowsprit of Easy Goin’ while crossing the Straight of Georgia in the beautiful Pacific Ocean of British Columbia.
Easy Goin’ and I just want say THANK YOU so much to everyone that contributed to Eagle Sailing in some way, came out on the boat, and followed the journey online with us this year.
There were so many smiling faces and now there are so many amazing new memories!
This video clip is one of my favourites of the year, it was from about a month ago when I was on the boat by myself…something that didn’t happen too often this year. All I could think about was all the awesome people that had been coming out so far in the season, and how happy I am to be able to share these experiences with people.
Your encouragement and moral support is what keeps me going and your financial support is what keeps the boat afloat. We could not and would not do it without you!! We absolutely love being out on the water cruising around with friends and families, enjoying this spectacular place.
Hope to see all of you again next year.
Thank you!
