Elk Mating (Rutting) Season is Here

Elk may look gentle, but they can injure or kill you and/or your pets. They may attack without warning, especially during their calving season in Spring (May-June) and in the Fall (September-October) during the mating season.

⚠️ Give wildlife space for your safety and theirs. Stay on designated trails and respect trail closures or restrictions and always stay a safe distance away of at least 30 metres.
⚠️ Keep your pets on a leash. An off-leash dog may provoke an elk to become aggressive as they may view the dog as a predator like a wolf or coyote.
⚠️ Always carry bear spray and be prepared to use it.
⚠️ Report people approaching wildlife or elk acting aggressively. Call 403.591.7755

⚠️ATTENTION: It’s berry season. Bears are active in the national park and encounters are likely.

Berry season is critical for bears. This time of year, bears are busy eating as many calories as possible in preparation for the winter.

Berry bushes border many trails, roads, and campgrounds within Banff National Park. Black and grizzly bears are highly focused on feeding on berries right now. Because of this, it’s easy to surprise a bear that is focused on feeding.

To reduce your risk:

• Make noise while on trails.

• Travel in tight groups.

• Trail running and cycling place you at much higher risk. Travel very slowly. Do not wear earbuds.

• Carry bear spray, ensure it is accessible, and know how to use it.

• Watch for fresh bear signs such as s**t. Be especially careful near berry patches.

• If you see a bear, stay calm, back away slowly and leave the area. Never run.

Our playgrounds are for ALL our community's littles 🐤

When we were planning the new Lions Park playground, a few families reached out to inquire about including language boards for children who are non-verbal.

Well, we listened.

It took some reading and planning, but we found an organization that created a communication system widely used by people and families with non-verbal children. This is now the third playground we have installed one of these signs (Peaks of Grassi, Lions and now Lady MacDonald).

We are proud to make our play spaces inclusive of the diversity that makes our community special 💖. We hope you enjoy these new additions!

Today is the day: Main Street returns to a pedestrian- and cyclist-only space for the summer season! From now until Oct. 18, cars will no longer be able to travel down Main Street from 6 Avenue to 8 Avenue.

We are excited to see business and vendors install their patios over the next several days, and we are eagerly anticipating the arrival and installation of some new artwork to help colour the season. Keep your 👀 peeled for lots of excitement on Main Street!
