๐จ๐ฆ Fun Fact Friday! ๐จ๐ฆ
Did you know the Canadian flag turns 60 years old this month? First raised on Parliament Hill in 1965, it has since soared to incredible heightsโliterally! ๐๐๏ธ In 1982, Laurie Skreslet took it to the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. It has also been a symbol of remembrance, lowered to half-mast for the longest time following the discovery of unmarked graves in Kamloops.
With its bold red and white and iconic maple leaf, the Canadian flag is a true national pride! ๐ โค๏ธ

Fun Fact Friday! Did you know the water in the Bow River through Canmore only freezes when it's really cold? Sustained very cold weather will cause ice to start to form, and this ice flows downriver and starts to build, causing the water to slow and the ice to continue to build. PSA Although there are times when the river may look completely frozen over and seem solid, the Bow River through Canmore is never safe to walk on! The memorable Canmore Engine Bridge is a great place to enjoy watching the ice flow!

Today we recognize the 4th annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the residential school victims, survivors, and all their loved ones, and coincides with Orange Shirt Day. You can look for community events to attend, support authentic Indigenous businesses, educate yourself on Indigenous history, and read the 94 Calls to Action and consider what actions you can take moving forward.

Fun Fact Friday! Did you know when you take a leisurely walk through the woods, the ground beneath your feet is far from being just dirt? It's a bustling ecosystem, alive and dynamic, playing a critical role in the health of our planet. The soil is a complex mix of organic matter, minerals, gases, liquids, and countless organisms that together support life on Earth. It's a fascinating world that often goes unnoticed, yet it's essential for the growth of plants, which in turn support animals and humans. According to the United Nations 95% of our food comes from soils, and December 5 is designated World Soil Day. During your next stay at the Lodges, make sure to visit the current exhibition at the Canmore Museum to learn more about "Soil Superheroes" and explore their latest interactive, family-friendly display!
