During today's tour with some home schooled children from Chilliwack (and their parents), we asked the children "Why do muralists create art?" One of my favourite answers was from a very young girl who said "It inspires people".

Here's the group getting inspiration from 's recent work for the . And for extra fun, one of the students was inspired to draw me while we did the tour. I present the latest work from the local artist "Ailaa".

We are thrilled to be working with the Chilliwack Mural Festival to share the beauty of everyone's favourite art gallery in Downtown Chilliwack. We share the background and story of the murals and artists, and mix in a bit of Chilliwack history and its public art as well. Our mural tours are currently focused on District 1881, Central Village neighbourhood, and the Main Street corridor areas.

Great information for those coming to Downtown Chilliwack for the Chilliwack Mural Festival today, tomorrow or Saturday. Give us a wave if you see us doing a tour!

Do you know where to find us? What’s the parking situation?

The last thing we want is for you to feel stressed out before even arriving at the festival.

Here’s what you need to know about how to get here:

The festival happens downtown, and lots of people come out to paint the town (literally).

There is limited parking downtown, so carpooling with fellow festival-goers is recommended. The best way to get here is to leave your car at home and take transit, walk, or cycle.

We want everyone to be able to attend the festival, so we also have an accessible drop-off location in the parking lot at 46115 Yale Rd.

The Chilliwack Mural Festival 2024 is coming up this Thursday, Friday and Saturday and we'll be offering more FREE guided walking tours as part of it. Thursday and Friday are from 6:00-7:30 pm, and then there are six tours available on Saturday between 11:00-4:00 (tours leave from Sasquatch Alley in District 1881, on the hour). Christopher Hunt and Debora Lynn Soutar have volunteered to lead two tours each on Saturday, and we'll also do two of the tours. Tours will run rain or shine.

To join on Saturday, simply arrive 5-10 minutes before the hour in Sasquatch Alley - no registration needed. We ARE taking registration for Thursday and Friday at 6:00 pm. Go here to register: https://www.chilliwackmuralfestival.com/see-the-murals

It's Mural Monday! We've partnered with the Chilliwack Mural Festival to highlight another mural you might see on a tour in downtown Chilliwack.

Today's mural is by Kevin Ledo (www.instagram.com/kevinledo) and is called "Use Your Voice" and it features a portrait of Inez Louis. It's one of my favourites, and also one of the largest in Chilliwack. It's important to see it up close, and also to view it from across the street in order to capture the full magnitude of it.

Looking for something to do on the long weekend, next week? Chilliwack Tours is hosting two walking tours featuring the murals from District 1881 and Central Village, sprinkled with a look at some of Chilliwack's public art, and some of the fascinating history of Chilliwack.

Sign up for either tour - one on Saturday August 3, one on Monday August 5. Both tours start at 10:00 am outside Smoking Gun Coffee in Woolly Dog Alley of District 1881.

Tours are $20 per person, and will be about 60-90 minutes long (depending on walking speeds).
