Sentier Piau ⭐️ Belliveau Cove Boardwalk (English follows)

🐾 Chiens bienvenus
🚗 À 20 min de La Bluefin

👟 The “Boardwalk” at Belliveau Cove is one of our favourite walking spots. This network of easy gravel trails stretches from the Cove’s lighthouse (top arrow) to the Pointe-à-Major historic site, the region’s first Acadian cemetery (bottom arrow).

🐾 Dogs welcome

Whale Adventures | Season 2024 ⚓️

What a season it’s been aboard the Georgie Porgie for 2024! We kicked things off early this year on June 27th, with all the sightings of Fin and Humpback whales 🐋🌊

July was definitely an interesting one, full of fog—so much so that we called ourselves Fog Adventures for a while, haha! But Captain Brad and Mandy didn’t let the grey skies bring us down, working hard to ensure our guests were all smiles. Even with the fog, there were incredible moments with whales and seabirds. We’ve never seen so many Phalaropes, Gannets filled the sky, Shearwaters glided past, and Puffins floated by or flew overhead.

August brought us busy days with Humpbacks and a magical first for us—Common Dolphins! A huge pod played in the waves around us, an incredible sight to witness. Along with our usual friends, the porpoises and Atlantic White-sided Dolphins, Sunfish, Seals and an amazing capture of a Thresher Shark by our own Mandy! Let’s not forget about our encounter with the Blue Whale!

September still delivered, with humpbacks and seabirds keeping us company. Though things started to slow down, the grand finale came when we encountered Old Thom the Orca during our last week on the water—what an epic way to close the season. 🦭🦅🐟🐬🦈

This season was full of magic, many breaches, flipper and tail-slaps, flukes, curious humpbacks with up close and personal glances. Everyday was different, activity and sightings. We had some hungry hungry humpbacks - sometimes diving for up to 20 minutes at a time, yet still just as beautiful to watch. Lucky for some of our guests we were able to capture some amazing moments of Lunge-feeding, Bubble-feeding and Kick-feeding 🐋🌊

A huge thank you to all the new faces who joined us this year, along with your fur families 🐾. And to our return guests, it was amazing to see so many familiar faces that have turned into lasting friendships. We are built on love, being able to make memories for all who join us- is such a pleasure. We really appreciate every single one of you! Thanks for helping us keep our family legacy alive 💙

This might be the longest end-of-season post we’ve ever written, but we had so much to share! Here’s to another fantastic season on the Georgie Porgie. See you all in 2025!

Someone asked this question last week.

What do you have to be to be an Acadian?

Acadians (Acadiens) are the descendants of 17th and 18th century French settlers in parts of Acadia (Acadie) in the northeastern region of North America comprising what is now the Canadian Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island and some parts of Quebec.

I don’t think anyone can argue that statement.

So if you can trace your own history back to the French settlers in this era then you can say that you are an Acadian.

As a pure Acadian myself (proof of history) I believe that anyone who feels Acadian should be able to call themselves an Acadian without anyone questioning it. 🌠⬜️🟥

We don’t need to see any proof.
Certainly I don’t need to see any.

The Acadian people are very welcoming and kind and respectful and love to socialize with music and food.

Last week at the World Gathering of Acadians (Congrès mondial acadien 2024) we showed up in huge numbers and proved that we are as strong as ever and will continue to be for many decades ahead.

We all know that different Acadian regions speak different languages with some Acadian,French,Chiac,English etc. so although we don’t all speak the same words,we are all still a big Acadian family that love the culture and traditions that we have learned from our ancestors.

Vive L’Acadie. 🌠⬜️🟥

Note:We also love our Cajun cousins that originated from L’Acadie.

Art local à La Bluefin 🎨 Local art featured at La Bluefin (English follows)

🖌️This poster by Amy Paradis (Atelier Amy Paradis), displayed in our cottage, illustrates 9 typical Baie Sainte-Marie acadian expressions (there’s even a bilingual explanatory leaflet explaining each one).

🖼️ This summer, Amy will be at the "Art Sundays" market in Belliveau Cove, and her work will be on display at the Saint-Bernard church transformed into an art gallery for the summer season!

👉Which of these expressions is your favourite?

À voir dans la région ✨A must-see in the area

***

🌲Smugglers Cove Provincial Park (the cave was used to hide liquor during Prohibition), Meteghan, Nova Scotia.

🧺This small provincial park in the Acadian region of Baie Sainte-Marie is the perfect place for a short stroll, a picnic or to watch the sun set over the sea.

😢It used to be possible to access the water, but the bottom of the stairs after the observation platform was washed away by a storm two winters ago and has not yet been replaced.

🐾 Dogs are of course welcome! This is one of our favourite places to walk our dog Rafale, as it's less than a 5-minute walk from La Bluefin.

🚗 Practical info: 1 min drive from La Bluefin, free access and parking, on-site restrooms, gravel and grass surface, 60 steps to observation platform
