Precious Stones Montessori Casa Program (2-6 year olds) By giving each child respect and responsibility, independent choices can be made that inspire the child.

Precious Stones Montessori (PSM) Casa Program has its roots in the child care philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, whose scientific observations of children gave birth to a new approach to childhood learning. Montessori believed that a child is able to reach his or her fullest potential in an environment that provides the proper balance of guidance and freedom. At Precious Stones Montessori, I inco

rporate the Montessori child care philosophy in these ways:
• I encourage children to choose materials that interest them and to meet each day's challenges with excitement and enthusiasm. Through self-directed exploration of the materials, children move from concrete experiences to a working knowledge of abstract ideas.

• Children progress through the curriculum at their own rate, motivated by their natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge. I teach to the individual based on his or her specific interests and abilities. In this way, learning is not a race or a chore, but a route to discovery.

• PSM classroom and work areas are filled with furniture and materials that are accessible, attractive and orderly. Everything is made with special care to fit the small child.

• I have a multi-aged class where younger children learn from older children. This builds a sense of community, helps older children develop responsibility and self-esteem, and inspires younger children to meet their potential.

• Classroom rules are based on the core Montessori beliefs of respect - respect for each other, respect for ourselves, and respect for the environment. I respond in a gentle, controlled manner when needing to correct or redirect a child's behaviour. Together, these practices create the kind of environment that makes Precious Stones Montessori so special, one in which learning is fun, exciting and challenging.

My past graduates came for a special visit day 💕

These cuties were all 2 years old when they started at PSM. Now they’re 7-11 year olds! Wow! Where did those years go? I love that they keep coming back year after year for a visit.

Last day of the 2022/23 school year. Early Canada Day Party with Wild Daisies Montessori. So fun! So many laughs and smiles!

Today was the last day of our regular school year. We had a huge last day party combined with Wild Daisies Montessori. We also had a Canada Day Party. I will post more pics and videos over the weekend. Here’s a video of some of the PSM students singing the Province and Territories Song. Very fitting to celebrate Canada Day.
