Great News! Marburg Outbreak in Rwanda Declared over!

Kigali, Rwanda – The outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease was declared over today by the Government of Rwanda with no new cases reported over the last 42 days after the last patient tested negative for the virus twice, as per the usual protocol for ending these types of outbreaks.

We've got exciting news from Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with several recent mountain gorilla births!

Recent Gorilla Baby Announcements

Nshongi Group: Munini proudly welcomed her fourth baby, growing the family to 14 members. Her previous offspring—Raha, Bayenza, and Kijumwa—continue to flourish under silverback Bweza's care.

Nshongi Group: Kabagyenyi also gave birth, with both parents and baby thriving under Bweza’s vigilant leadership.

Mucunguzi Group: Migogo’s newborn has increased the group’s size to 15.

Bikingi Group: Mucecuru’s latest addition brings this family to 9, watched over by silverback Kaharata.

Rushegura Group: Kibande’s newborn has expanded their clan to 17 members.

Why These Births Are a Big Deal: Conservation & Community Impact

These births are a testament to Uganda’s dedicated conservation efforts and the power of responsible tourism. With the mountain gorilla population growing at 3% annually, each new arrival enriches the ecosystem and enhances visitor experiences.
