Back in 1994, Creston was already a powerhouse in BC’s agriculture scene. The valley boasted over 6,000 acres of fruit trees, and farmers were producing more than 2 million pounds of cherries annually! Local strawberry cooperatives in places like Wynndel had long been feeding the province, and innovative growers were already experimenting with early organic methods.
And behind it all? A legacy of passionate local organizations, like:
🍓 Creston Valley Agricultural Association (Founded before 1914)
🌱 Creston Valley Cooperative Association (1914-1938)
🍒 The Co-Operative Fruit Growers of Wynndel (Founded 1913)
🍓 Today’s Creston Valley Food Action Coalition, Fields Forward Society, Kootenay Local Agricultural Society, Creston Community Seed Bank Society, and our own Creston Valley Fall Fair Association continue that mission — keeping Creston’s food on the table, seeds local, and community thriving. 💚
📍Still growing strong since 1918 — we can’t wait to see you at the next Fall Fair!
