Hi Friends,
Happy 2024 to all of you! It's been a while since we have posted. I have been suffering post concussion syndrome for the past year and a half after being rear-ended in a MVA. It has been a long healing journey for me and I am grateful for my amazing business partner (husband), our friends and family, our amazing community, my practitioners, and the rest of the Cumberland Guesthouse staff for all of their support. Our guests continue to be top tier and we look forward to seeing you all again, and meeting some new ones as well!
One of my goals for the new year is to be more present on socials again... Screen time can be challenging for my symptoms but is doable in small doses. Please forgive my not always Insta-worthy pictures, posts or lack of reels and music, I am no expert! One of these days I will figure it out!
We are experimenting with dynamic pricing software on our website and there are some really great deals available...starting at $79/night during slow periods... Hope to see you all soon!

So proud of these two. Did you know that the Cumberland Guesthouse owners are also trail builders?

Scott Stansbury (original owner of the Guesthouse) and Mario Fehrenberg (current owner) are the builders of One of Cumberland’s favourite trail: Vanilla 🚴‍♂️

With support from United Riders of Cumberland these two have been putting in a lot of hours building the newly opened section of Vanilla and are still working on new sections.
Shout out to Cumberland Earthworks and Island Mountain Rides for assisting with the newer sections!

Thank you to Tourism Vancouver Island for providing funding for part of this project and thank you to Mosaic Forest Management for supporting this new build.

This is not in Cumberland but we like to travel too! It is definitely worth a stop on the way to and/or back from Cumberland. The Stevie Smith Bike Park in Nanaimo is a super fun spot to practice some skills, jumps, and pumps.

Good things are happening in Cumberland. Come stay in one of our beautiful suites and check out our new trail opening tomorrow!

UPDATE: the heavens opened yesterday with a big rain dump right on top of the trail! While it was dry in Cumberland the trail got soaked and gave us a sticky feast right now. Boo to May showers and be gone random sun showers, don’t make our new trail all wet!
NEW TRAIL ALERT. Something very cool is happening at 3pm tomorrow (Friday 27th May).
Phase one of the Vanilla extension which starts at the top of Sobo No Michi is complete and the builders are ready to open the trail for all to enjoy. It’s a blue square trail with lots of fun turns and berms, hops and pops and everything is rollable at full send or happy cruiser. Get your feet in the pedals and see you at three.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌍🌏

Although we appreciate our earth everyday, it’s nice to reflect on what we can do to help protect our planet.

Being a sustainable business is something that is important to us and we have been working on ways that we can make our business more sustainable.

We love our Village and we are committed to protecting our community through following the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations. We are currently focused in three areas – reducing our carbon foot print through upgrades and capital investments (such as new windows, and more efficient energy systems); Buying local – we want to support our local community and they make some pretty amazing products! ; and we continue to explore and adopt more sustainable practices to help protect our environment and are supporters of the 🌲🍃🌱

This fall we managed to install some more efficient windows and install a heat pump in one of our suites. On our last hydro bill we had decreased our energy use by 40% from the previous year!

We just installed another mini split in another suite which will help to reduce our energy use further. Shout out to Whisky Jack HVAC Ltd. for the installs!
