Well... I have a few stories about Frodo from 2002/3. He "mugged" Joy and I - running through the forest and pushing us down. We were unhurt and laughed till we cried - "mugged by a chimp". Jan G was there too - crazy event. The next year he was quite a bit more aggressive to a local gal walking through the forest. He was quite a dominant male and very protective. Just one of those moments in my 100+ safaris that won't be forgotten.

You can see young Frodo ā just one year old ā cradled by his mother, the legendary matriarch Fifi. What none of us knew then was that Frodo would grow into one of Gombe's most powerful and infamous chimpanzees.
Known for his size and sheer force, Frodo's personality was as bold as his physical presence. His brother, Freud, may have been more diplomatic ā but Frodo's aggressive behaviour made him notorious throughout the community. šŖ
Dr. Jane once said: "If two were playing and they saw Frodo come along, they stopped playing. They knew as soon as he joined in, he'd hurt one of them."
Frodo toppled Freud, rising to alpha status in 1997 and ruling with strength rather than popularity. His reign and his behaviour drew global attention. His story ended after his health declined, but his legacy remains an important reminder of the diversity and complexity of chimpanzee personalities. šµ
From playful infant to dominant leader, Frodo's life was one of drama, power, and lessons about the challenges of leadership in the wild. š± Let his story inspire us to continue learning about ā and protecting ā these incredible creatures.
