I met Daphne Sheldrick on my very first safari in 1990... 35 years ago. Fell in love with her and all she represented. She was a mentor to me over many years, graciously stopping her work or day, even when her health was poor, to meet with my guests on our visits. She was a force to be reckoned with ... Loved her to the end... Her work has been continued by her amazing family and the next generation, her grandsons. Not only do they rescue, but reintegrate back into the wild which is where these orphans need to be. Please join me in supporting Sheldrick Wildlife Trust by adopting an orphan (or 2!) as a gift for someone. They will receive a monthly update - the gift that keeps on giving.

This is who you will be helping... and thank you

This holiday season, spread the love. Gift the adoption of an orphaned elephant, rhino, or giraffe and support our mission to save all creatures, great and s...

DECEMBER 4th IS INTERNATIONAL CHEETAH DAY!
The cheetah is a truly unique wild cat, and its lifestyle is full of surprises and mysteries. Males live alone or in unions, females adopt other female's cubs and raise litters together. Cheetahs swim across rapid rivers and survive in arid deserts, dense forests and rocky mountains. They travel over 20 km under cover of night and successfully hunt at any time of day, including in complete darkness. To escape predators, they climb trees or hide behind rangers' and tourists' cars. And how many more mysteries does the cheetah keep! In every region, every country, the cheetah shows miracles of adaptability, and at the same time experiences various challenges. Knowing a species better means knowing how to preserve it most effectively. This is why it is so important to study this vulnerable species wherever it remains. And on this day, we sincerely thank everyone who helps us study and preserve the cheetah: respected authorities and supportive partners, dedicated rangers and collaborative colleagues, knowledgeable guides and mindful community members, and all our dear sponsors and donors! All together we are doing an important work, preserving the cheetah for future generations.

Elephants rely on their sense of smell and hearing more than they do on their sight. African elephants, in particular, spend much of their time with their eyes cast down, their long lashes covering their irises. It is only when elephants are drawn to look directly at something unexpected, alarming or deserving of study, that they open their eyes wide. It is a rare treat to look into the eyes of an African elephant, and when you do you are rewarded with beautiful amber-colored irises.

Our daughter Selengei's first name is Amber, for the eyes of elephants.
