The Island Mill Getaway is a circa 1829 limestone residence which was once a grist and flour mill with two suites, one with a private entrance and patio and one on the second floor. We are located on an island in the Salmon River between two bridges and two waterfalls just 6 minutes north of the 401 highway which south takes you to Prince Edward County with it's many wineries, breweries and beache
s. Enjoying nature, the gardens, the wildlife and the river is the main occupation here. Relaxing and dining by the river, a hot tub or fire under the stars, a quiet paddle up the river by kayak, canoe or peddle boat, a swim in the waterfalls or touring the countryside by bicycle are all activities included in your stay as well as a free pass to the Provincial Parks. There are two unique suites available short and long term stays on the island. The Country Suite is on the second floor of the mill. This is a lovely 575 square foot suite with a mini kitchen, living area with a flat screen TV, dining area and private bathroom. There is limited WiFi available on request as we are in a valley and must use a modem and do not have access to unlimited internet. The bed is a comfy queen size with a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress. We encourage you to bring your own food and prepare light meals in your private kitchen as the closest restaurant is 6 km away and there are no stores in the immediate area. You may also use the outdoor BBQ, tea, coffee and filtered water are always available in your room. The Miller’s Retreat is a cozy and rustic riverside suite underneath the falls. Step out onto your private patio with your own dining area, fire pit, and BBQ on nice summer days. Inside the suite is a Queen size bed, custom controlled fireplace for your comfort, full-size kitchen for preparing any type of meal, limited WiFi and flat screen TV. We are centrally located between Prince Edward County, Picton, Kingston and Belleville with a golf course just up the road and another within a half hour's drive. With waterfront on three sides, you'll want to spend some time on the river. Guests staying in either suite are welcome to use the canoe, pedal boat, and kayaks, as well as touring bicycles for seeing the countryside. Feel free to relax and dine in our comfy swivel chairs under the pergola on our shared patio, which has a barbeque/fire pit area beside the waterfalls. Island Mill Getaway and its two fantastic suites are location in the very picturesque historic hamlet of Lonsdale, which has been the subject of many artists and photographers. The river is part of an historic canoe route and many enthusiasts brave the rapids in May. The river slow down in June for relaxing paddles.
