Whale Adventures | Season 2024 ⚓️

What a season it’s been aboard the Georgie Porgie for 2024! We kicked things off early this year on June 27th, with all the sightings of Fin and Humpback whales 🐋🌊

July was definitely an interesting one, full of fog—so much so that we called ourselves Fog Adventures for a while, haha! But Captain Brad and Mandy didn’t let the grey skies bring us down, working hard to ensure our guests were all smiles. Even with the fog, there were incredible moments with whales and seabirds. We’ve never seen so many Phalaropes, Gannets filled the sky, Shearwaters glided past, and Puffins floated by or flew overhead.

August brought us busy days with Humpbacks and a magical first for us—Common Dolphins! A huge pod played in the waves around us, an incredible sight to witness. Along with our usual friends, the porpoises and Atlantic White-sided Dolphins, Sunfish, Seals and an amazing capture of a Thresher Shark by our own Mandy! Let’s not forget about our encounter with the Blue Whale!

September still delivered, with humpbacks and seabirds keeping us company. Though things started to slow down, the grand finale came when we encountered Old Thom the Orca during our last week on the water—what an epic way to close the season. 🦭🦅🐟🐬🦈

This season was full of magic, many breaches, flipper and tail-slaps, flukes, curious humpbacks with up close and personal glances. Everyday was different, activity and sightings. We had some hungry hungry humpbacks - sometimes diving for up to 20 minutes at a time, yet still just as beautiful to watch. Lucky for some of our guests we were able to capture some amazing moments of Lunge-feeding, Bubble-feeding and Kick-feeding 🐋🌊

A huge thank you to all the new faces who joined us this year, along with your fur families 🐾. And to our return guests, it was amazing to see so many familiar faces that have turned into lasting friendships. We are built on love, being able to make memories for all who join us- is such a pleasure. We really appreciate every single one of you! Thanks for helping us keep our family legacy alive 💙

This might be the longest end-of-season post we’ve ever written, but we had so much to share! Here’s to another fantastic season on the Georgie Porgie. See you all in 2025!

Whale Adventures | September 12, 2024 🖤🤍 - Whale Lottery!

What an afternoon on the BAY! We spent time with two humpbacks, and it was a pretty good turnout. As we made our way back through the passage, a surprise call came in from Captain Craig aboard Petite Passage: “Guess who we see?!”

It was Old Thom!

Mandy asked our guests if anyone had any time restraints. When they all said no, she suggested an extra adventure to meet Old Thom – and the excitement on board was incredible! We couldn’t resist, so off we went, turning an already amazing day into something even more unforgettable.

Old Thom has been a popular presence in the Bay of Fundy, especially during the months of July, August, and early September. No one really knows why, but Old Thom is a solo Orca, often seen traveling with his dolphin buddies— Atlantic-White-Sided Dolphins 🐬

We thought we had missed him in July with all the fog, and we would have been so sad to end the season without seeing him. This was such a special day, not only for our crew and guests but for all the whale-watching companies in the area who heard the call.

A huge thank you to Captain Craig for this incredible encounter! 💙

We love when our guests share the incredible moments they’ve experienced with us!

A big thanks to Diana, who, along with her friend Jennifer, joined our 1:00 p.m. tour on September 6th, 2024, and graciously sent in these stunning captures.

Diana’s photos beautifully highlight the magic of the day, including a spectacular breach from Badge, one of our well-known humpbacks. We also watched another active humpback hanging out with Badge.

We truly appreciate you sharing these remarkable memories with us!

Whale Adventures | September 3, 2024 ⚓️

We had a beautiful day on the water yesterday, though a little breezy. We sailed closer to shore, navigating near the middle of Long Island, not far from Flour Cove.

That’s where we met up with Sedge, a familiar face (or rather, tail) to our crew and guests. Sedge is easily recognizable by the distinct markings on his tail and a once-injured dorsal fin that’s now healed. His dorsal fin was recognized a while back with a slight change, a portion of it had come off. The reason for this? We’ll probably never really know. Perhaps an encounter with another male humpback? What ever the reason, we are so glad to see you still thriving Sedge, another gentle-giant, we all know and love. 🐋🌊

Lucky for us, Sedge treated us to a spectacular breach. This season, we’ve seen Sedge breach more than any other humpback. Way to go, Sedge! These incredible sightings have left our guests in awe.

As the season slows down with schools opening and summer vacations ending, we’re soaking up every magical moment out here.

Another successful day aboard the Georgie Porgie!

In the morning, we spent time with a pair of relaxed humpbacks, enjoying their serene presence. The beauty of these gentle giants never fails to amaze us.

By the afternoon, we set sail and met up with another pair, including our old friend Sockeye, one of our favorite humpbacks. Sockeye is easily recognized by his unique scar under his blowholes and his distinct jawline that resembles a sockeye salmon. His friendly nature always leaves a lasting impression on those lucky enough to see him.

As we made our way back, we encountered Sedge, who was busy being a hungry humpback. We caught a glimpse of him bubble feeding, along with some impressive flukes. The ocean was alive with phalaropes and a few gannets to admire.

By evening, we returned to see Sedge. As we watched, another humpback joined in, and the day ended with a couple of breathtaking breaches against a beautiful golden sky, with puffs of white clouds. Definitely a stunning ending to our day.

Whale Adventures, September 1, 2024 ⚓️

It was a grey day yesterday, but that didn’t stop us from setting out on two exciting adventures before the wind set in.

Both our morning and afternoon trips were a success. In the morning, we spent time with a pair of humpbacks, and by the afternoon, our humpback buddy Tusk put on a fantastic tail-slapping show! 💙 Tusk is famous for his signature move—the Tusk-Twist. 🐋 Every encounter with him is a memory in the making!

Unfortunately, Captain Brad made the tough but safe decision to cancel the evening tour as the wind picked up. Safety is always our number one priority, and we’re glad many of our guests were able to reschedule. We truly appreciate your understanding—it breaks our hearts to cancel due to weather, so thank you for being so kind and flexible. 🌬️

This season, some of our best sightings have been on these dark and grey days. So, don’t let a little fog and rain decide whether you’ll join us on an adventure—you just might miss out!

Check out these awesome captures of Tusk, courtesy of our fantastic tour guide, Mandy! 📸

Some stories don’t need words because a picture can hold a lifetime of memories.

A grandfather’s love shared with his grandson, the legacy of a generation boat, and the quiet loyalty of a captain’s dog watching the whales alongside him—showing how even the smallest members of the crew are part of this journey. 🐾

No caption needed, just the love that ties it all together.

Moments too sweet not to share. 💙
