The last stretch... It took us 4 days to get back to the beautiful shores of Lake superior. I have to admit that Superior lake provincial is one of the most beautiful place to stay on the east side of Canada. Of course we saw many other nice places on the west side, colossal mountains, icefields, lakes with unbelievable colors, but there is something special about this park and we will definitely go back there as often as possible. It is not too far and it has everything we are looking for! Here are some final shot of this magnificent place so you can appreciate it as well.

This mega trip have been an amazing experience for all the family and we will surely keep this experience in our hearths for a long time! Thank you for following us thru that adventure and see you on the road! Sincerely. J-P

The Rockies have come to an end...and what an end it was! Yep, we learned something on this trip, we learned that you must be prepared, things need to be reserved to be sure to have a good place to stay, especially with the kids. However, we also learned that there are many first come and first serve places where it is possible to stay, and one of these place was the Lockhart Beach Provincial Park... ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/iFZp4sWMv7iZJvwa7 ) We Left Rosebery park in the morning heading to the Balfour/Kootenay bay ferry on which we could enjoy a nice boat ride over the magnificent Kootenay lake, weather was bliss and we couldn't ask for better. We came across the Lockhart beach provincial park on our way to the 'planned' Norbury lake campground which was reserved. Thing is, we had not much idea of what Norbury Lake was going to be like. By stopping at the Lockhart beach, we soon realized that there was a super nice camping spot waiting for us and that the beach was super close to our spot, place was clean so, why not stop there, Norbury could not be better than that... LET'S DO IT! We had sublime weather for the several days we spent there before crossing the country again. That last stop was one of the best from the trip, water temp was ok, is was clear and beach was not very busy, it was the perfect place to relax! So we did! Next stop, thousand of miles away, after the big stretch!

Sadly, it's time to head back home... Yes, we are officially on out way back! But, there are still thousands of miles before we get there so still many nice places to visit and one of them was surely the Rosebery Provincial Park, close to the Slocan Lake. ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZEaVQbGqBficn1RN9 )The route to get there (route 6) was of the most torturous one I have ever seen! Driving it with a big rig must be something very stressful but we were ok with our small Odyssey😁! We had to take one ferry to cross the Upper Arrow lake and note that most ferries are free in this area because they are part of the road infrastructure of BC. On our way, we passed beside the McDonald Creek provincial park ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/u1sRZ6WXyDJq7k2e7 ) which I strongly suggest to stay if you can have a spot there (It was full for us). Most spots are by the lake and sunsets are amazing! Note that water level will vary so beach size will reflect the water level. Our Rosebery campground was not a water front site but it was completely refreshed and everything was new! This place was super clean and tidy, a nice place to spend the night! There are many 'almost abandoned' towns in the area as mining was a big business in the past. One of these relics from the past is Sandon ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/G7qMY4kQKGhxYsan7 ) This place is trapped in time, trapped in the middle of nowhere, population: 10! One of this Next spot, Norbury lake via route 31A! Well, that's what we were thinking...

The Okanagan Valley! After a few hundreds miles, we arrived by the Okanagan lake on a glorious day! Unfortunately, we could not reserve any camping because everything filled out almost instantly on the BC park web site. However, there is a first come first serve site available around the lake which is Evely recreational site ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wc3xSf1RqqL4nuan6 ) We decided to head there and take a chance for the night but on our way we passed beside the Bear Creek provincial campground which indicated a FULL notice ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/UsiF83dAT1JzMHT99 ) This placed looked amazing so why not giving it a try? So we just u-turned and asked if by any miracle a spot would be available... you know what, there was ONE spot which got abandoned by the previous campers! Like 30 minutes before we arrived! That was the best news of the day as you can imagine! We had a nice private lot #20 which had a trail leading directly to the beach by the Okanagan Lake. Yes, that was a lucky shot for us and we had a wonderful afternoon by the lake. The city of Kelowna is visible just on the other side of the lake and on the night time, the scene is incredible when all the city lights are on! After this great stay, we could discover the incredible Kalamalka lake on our way back. This lake have an out-of-this-world blue tint and there is a beach at its very tip that is one of the nicest spots imaginable, I strongly suggest spending the afternoon there! ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/QF982sqCXfBpUQ5q9 ) Next Spot, Rosebery Provincial park!

Tofino, a biker's and surfer's paradise ! Yes, this place is one of the most western place in Canada, and the road to get there is an epic journey by itself! Unfortunately, due to emergency road work, we could not stop at the Cathedral Grove park which is a must when going there ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/8yDuoYJ5zKtKixDW8 ) so that was kind of sad. Road was open only one way and it was closed for 6 hours during the day so it took a lot of time to get there😅. Good thing is that we got stuck just beside the Cameron lake ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/YHMNcMcFdacDv88k9 ) so we had a great view. We could prepare a nice lunch and took advantage of the waiting time to clean out the van as there was not many other things to do! We eventually arrived at destination and had 2 nice spots at the magnificent Bella Pacifica campground! ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/YCFtTaawpd2csjAeA ) We enjoyed the marine wildlife which is very abundant in this area, many small creatures kept us captivated for several hours and we had a great time looking for them! Special detail here, the nicest spot in this campground is lot 57! Now, you know😄! I would strongly suggest to bring some e-bikes with you because there are some amazing path that have just been completed in the Pacific Rim National Park ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/mYUSVW7Ao6tFJbeB7 ) and many amazing places can surely be discovered while biking the park. We had a great week on the island but it would take more time than that to make a full tour so I guess we will have to go back in the future! Next stop, the ferry and we will be back on the main land, heading the Okanagan valley!

Victoria and the Butchart Garden - We got on the ferry heading to the amazing Butchart Garden! This is an amazing place that must be visited if you are nearby. Here is the link: https://www.butchartgardens.com/ . An important thing to know is that BC ferries offers departure every hours from the Tsawwassen terminal to Victoria so if you do not have any reservation, you better go on the island from there. If you try to go to Nanaimo from Horseshoe bay without reservation, you may have to wait about 4-8 hours, which is not ideal. We loved the feel of Victoria as it kept its 19th century atmosphere, with the small hidden alleys, the building painting and the pedestrian walkway, seems like a pretty nice place to live! We got lucky enough to park inside as we could pass under the lowest beam in the parking lot! Hurray! That saved us a lot of problem trying to find another parking! 😄 We could not get any campsite for our dates but a place to stay nearby would be French beach park from the BC Park reservation site, it surely looks super nice! Here is the link: https://bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/ -overview-container Next stop, Tofino!
