What cost will be placed on people and communities by connecting Terra Nova National Park to the Eastport Peninsula? Something that’s needing full discussion and community involvement before it inevitably comes up for consideration. With increased tourism pressure on local beaches and shorelines via trails, people in the area need to be considered more as developments and investments continue to impact people who live and work in the area.

Western Brook Pond is the jewel of the national park, and a big reason UNESCO named it a World Heritage Site in 1987 - for the park’s “exceptional natural beauty” and “outstanding examples representing major stages of earth’s history”. It’s a 17 km long glacier-cut lake winding its way...

❗️Attention: Due to extreme fire weather, public access to the backcountry is immediately prohibited by order of the Superintendent, Terra Nova National Park. This includes:
- Backcountry camping at Southwest Arm, Buckley’s Cove, Beachy Pond, Dunphy’s Pond Mainland/Island, Minchin’s Cove and South Broad Cove
- Backcountry day use at Minchin’s Cove, South Broad Cove and Park Harbour
- Backcountry trail use including Goowiddy Path, Outport Trail and Dunphy’s Pond Trail
For your safety, please respect all closures, signage and directions from Parks Canada staff. Please continue to enjoy the other open areas of the Park.
