Imagine being on a kayak in BC ocean waters and seeing humpbacks and orcas in the wild — and having the amazing @ericaehm, former Much Music VJ with you!
She’ll be the first to tell you she’s “not a camper” so it was a trip that stretched her comfort level and willingness to be out in the elements. We’re pretty sure she is very happy she pushed herself to do both.
Join Erica and our karibu founder Andrea Mandel-Campbell tomorrow (Saturday) to hear about their kayak trip to North Vancouver Island on Instagram live at 3pm.

In anticipation of Orange Shirt Day on Monday, we’d like to introduce you to @thomaswamiss Jr, our Indigenous guide.
Thomas is Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw and is standing on the site of a St Michael’s Indian Residential School, which was knocked down in 2015, in Alert Bay (‘Yalis).
It is estimated that thousands of children were scooped out of their homes in the surrounding territory and brought to this school.
Thomas’s grandfather went here.
Just beside it is the U’Mista Cultural Centre, which is home to a renowned collection of potlatch regalia which was painstakingly reclaimed from private and museum collections after being seized by government as ‘illegal’ from the 1880s to 1950.
Having Thomas on our trips provides a very personal and real connection into both the tragedy of what happened but also hope for the future.
Thomas is a language teacher, and one of a growing local movement to revive the Kwak’wala language.
