This small, heart shaped item is a ‘to***co grade marker.’ These markers were attached to packages of chewing or smoking to***co, possibly to differentiate between the two, and have been found at sites ranging from Florida to Alaska.

This tab is stamped with the seal of W.C Macdonald Inc. of Montreal, which was in use from 1870-1922.

Found during excavations of the Long Sault site on the grounds of Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Ning in the 70’s, this tag represents part of the historic occupation of this region.
