Gulf Island Kayaking

Gulf Island Kayaking Founded in 1985, Gulf Island Kayaking offers guided tours, kayak, canoe, paddleboard & bike rentals year-round. Come experience Galiano from the waterline!

www.seakayak.ca In 1985, Ben Miltner established Gulf Island Kayaking (now also known as Galiano Kayaks) as an owner-operated company. Based at Montague Harbour Marina next to Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park on beautiful Galiano Island, British Columbia, Galiano Kayaks has much to offer: guided kayak tours, both day tours and overnight camping expeditions, kayak rentals, and used kayak and

equipment sales. Since 1987, we have been offering sea kayak tours and natural history & birding tours in Costa Rica weekly from December through April, during B.C.'s winter months. On our tours you will enjoy expedition single kayaks, small groups of six or less, as well as comfortable eco-friendly lodging with amazing home cooking and hospitality.

Imagine paddling along a serene tidal river, the cool water 🌊 flowing beneath you as you glide under branches to spot a heron fishing just inches away. Look up, and you may see monkeys 🐒 playfully swinging through the canopy, only to round a bend and encounter a mother and baby monkey perched quietly on the riverbank.

Picture yourself drifting past a pelican, perfectly still, standing sentinel on a rock in the ocean 🌊. Feel the rhythmic surge of ocean swells gently lifting your kayak 🚣‍♀️. As the day fades, local fishermen cast their nets in the golden light of a breathtaking sunset 🌅.

End the day with a hike through the rainforest jungle 🌳, discovering a pristine beach 🏝️ all to yourself, followed by a candlelit dinner with new friends, sharing stories of the day's adventure.

This is the magic of Costa Rica 🌿, waiting to be explored. Join us for a truly unforgettable experience 🌅 — one that brings you closer to nature, wildlife, and the beauty of the most biodiverse place in the world 🌍 (National Geographic).

It's baby seal season!
There is a last minute Seals and Sandstone Tour tomorrow afternoon leaving the Marina at 1 pm for three or four hours and we have room for 1-4 more paddlers. Call Ben at 250 539 8344 or the office at 250 539 2442 to book.

Kayak in sheltered waters surrounded by islands, honeycombed sandstone cliffs and sunning seals. Learn how wave action and salt weathering sculpt the soft sandstone bedrock, resulting in the dramatic tafoni formations that riddle the shoreline. Afternoon is when seals take their siesta, and are often found asleep on the rocks, camouflaged amongst the sandstone. Mink, eagles, herons, and other wildlife are also regularly encountered. Our guides have a keen interest in local ecology, and are happy to share their passion. No experience necessary!

Join us for a memorable evening experiencing and learning about bioluminescence – the production and emission of light by microorganisms. Bioluminescence occurs in the Gulf Islands year-round, but is strongest in the summer months as warmer temperatures allow dinoflagellates and diatoms – single-celled plant-like organisms – to flourish. When disturbed, these microorganisms emit light, presumably as a defense mechanism. As the light fades and your paddle becomes harder to see, its movement through the water is soon illuminated as it agitates the living ocean. Although wildlife is difficult to see above the water in darkness, movements of other creatures below the surface become more pronounced, as they too are illuminated. Schools of fish that remain elusive during the day reveal their presence by the comet’s tail of sparkling light each fish leaves behind as they swim. This unique tour is accessible to all paddlers (provided you have no fear of the dark!).
