We cannot say it enough. The view of the river from the living room is beyond magical.
This is one of our favourite times of year when the leaves change and the sun sets on the leaves. It’s so calming and you can feel yourself relax.

“We had a lovely stay at this beautiful cottage! It was immaculately clean, wonderfully climate controlled, and the main bathroom was spa worthy. We were welcomed by a full tray of local pastries and even a bottle of wine! Monday mornings got me like…
Anyone else feel like time changes are the worst? Don’t get us wrong, we love having more sunlight. But the loss of an hour is hitting us hard today.
Responsibilities shouldn’t count the day after the time change. We should be able to laze around like a puppy.
Spontaneous town visits that result in hot chocolate and baked goods are my favourite.
Checked out a new spot today and it didn’t disappoint! We ordered hot chocolate and scones and headed down to the St. Lawrence. The hot chocolates didn’t make it that far…
is definitely a must visit for all your ice cream/baked goods/sugary needs!
I’m in a really good place right now.
Not emotionally or spiritually, I’m just on the couch at the cottage with my cat.

When the otters visit, we drop everything and run to the window to watch them!
It’s always a sight to see them chowing down on fish. Especially when the family grows from 2 to 3 🦦
Time and time again we’re blown away by the wildlife here and feel privileged to have a front row seat.
Yesterday we even saw a bald eagle fly by!

It’s so important to guests that when they come into your kitchen they can cook in it like they would in their own. Especially during the off season when more time is spent indoors cooking with friends and family.

New addition to the cottage this year!
We’re constantly trying to improve every aspect of the guest experience at the cottage. This holiday season we added lights to the outside!
No only does it look festive, but with the majority of our guests arriving after the sun sets it also highlights our guests’ destination on the dark rural road.
The candy canes may come down soon but the light will probably stay on til spring!

We took a break from social this summer but we’re excited to be back and start connecting with everyone again!
We had a lot come at us this summer, and we hope to share some of it with you in the coming weeks. But we had a great set of guests this year and we can’t wait to welcome more! We have some projects up our sleeve for the off season so look out for those as well.

Thank god our trees bounced back from the gypsy moths.
Probably my only unwelcome guests: Gypsy moth caterpillars.
For anyone who’s had them, you know. Those little caterpillars decimated the leaves on our big beautiful oak trees. It was a scary sight!
But these amazing trees bounced back and look like trees again!
Any hop heads out there?
There are several local breweries to check out while staying at the cottage!
Take an afternoon to visit the quaint little town Westport, and make sure to pick up these brews.

Looking for a budget friendly way to infuse some cottage style into your space? Try painting paddles!
We purchased a couple cheap paddles, some paint from the dollar store, and used tape to make our designs.
They turned out way better than we thought!
This makes a great rainy day activity as well.
What is your budget friendly decorating tip?
One of the weird phenomena of hosting people in your cottage is that you work so hard in the off season and spend all this time there improving the place for guests, and then, if you’re lucky, summer hits and it’s fully rented to others and you’re never there!
It can feel like something is missing. And you have to take a leap of faith that your guests are treating your place with respect. It can be nerve wracking from time to time.
But we focus on the positives! So while guests were enjoying the cottage we took a much needed vacation at a place with virtually no service, and reset for the rest of our busy season!
The best part was when we got back to civilization, this amazing review was sitting there waiting for us. Confirmation that we’re doing something right!
