Welcome to the Rock CLOC Musical Theatre .

What an outstanding show! CLOC has excelled in staging the superb musical Come From Away. This is the first Victorian non-professional production of the remarkable work by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, who are responsible for the book, music and lyrics. To say it soars is an understatement.Photos by...

Filmed in 2018 when the airport was still using the International Lounge as international, secure. We can see the glassed tunnel that gave us a glimpse from the secured domestic gate.

You know I told you about the importance of our Water Bomber Base in Gander. Great to see 5th plane being readied and the addition of Bird Dogs. We had Bird Dogs on loan from Quebec in the past.

Today, the provincial and federal governments announced a $32 million plan to establish the Atlantic Wildfire Centre at Gander International Airport. The funding will support critical initiatives, including repairs to the province’s fifth waterbomber, training for wildfire fighters, and expanding air services with two bird-dog aircraft.

GIAA CEO Reg Wright called it an “exciting announcement for the airport, community and province, and a strategic investment in public safety."

“It builds on the natural strength of the best-in-class talent that exists in the Town of Gander and addresses a growing need to enhance response as the wildfire crisis deepens,” he said. “We’re excited to call the Atlantic Wildfire Centre home and credit Premier Furey and his colleagues at both levels of government for marshalling this opportunity.”

Breakfast at Union East & Drinks with a deconstructed breakfast Sammy for my grandchild. Eggs Benedict cooked perfectly as ordered.
Great service and attention. Delicious breakfast.

Another tidbit that's not mention on airport display.

Sheila Scott was a record setting aviator whose many feats included being the first person to fly over the North Pole. Here she is pictured with Gander Airport Manager, Jack James, gifting him a stuffed seal. Very fitting we think!

Gloria Durham-Lindsay graduated Toronto’s Radio College. Given the choice of which branch of service to pursue, Gloria signed up for the RAF Transport Command. She worked through WWII in Gander as a Radio Operator. Her work in Gander was paramount to the war effort!

I just love these facts from the museum! The beginning of the Ferry Command.

Born in St. John's but grew up in Harbour Grace where her childhood included her dad chauffering Lindberg and Earhart, among others! I learned a lot about her this summer. Upon retirement, they moved to BC and ran a successful travel company.
She's the first bio featured in the Gander Airport International Lounge.

Born May 29, 1925, in St. John’s, Phyllis Penney-Gaul was Newfoundland’s first female pilot.
She received her pilot's license on August 10, 1947. Among many accomplishments, working for KLM airlines and solo flight, Phyllis has her own street named in Gander!

The Gander International Airport Authority (GIAA) today announced plans to restore its historic international lounge.

The $1.5 million project focuses on the preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse of the space, which is widely regarded as the best-preserved Modernist room in Canada, with an historic 60-year legacy spanning multiple wars and the Golden Age of aviation. The aesthetic of the international lounge will be broadly maintained and new elements will be introduced to create a compelling visitor experience.

GIAA will renovate approximately 9,000 square feet of surplus space for an historic theatre, gallery and room for heritage preservation. The GIAA plans to introduce interpretive storytelling elements to profile the airport’s history. The renovations will include restoration of some of the airport lounge’s original furniture, decor and artifacts.

The federal and provincial governments will provide support to help the GIAA to renovate the space. The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, are each contributing $500,000 towards the initiative. GIAA is also contributing $500,000 towards the project.
