Immersed in the quiet appreciation of the wild- Watched Baby Eagle while watched by Daddy Eagle while Mamma Eagle defended against Ravens and Gulls to the East. Seaweed Bath followed by an outdoor nap. Ended the day with dinner and being nourished by Seaweed Vegetable Broth and Partridge Berry Juice and Seaweed Salad with a bit of Cod Couvillion mixed in. It was a good day for our guests. Hope they slept well.

Bisque prepared with our Seaweed Vegetable Broth, topped with seared scallops and boulettes. Thoroughly enjoyed serving this dish during family style service this past week.

Such a comforting, nutritious, delicious way to start the day & start a meal. Looking forward to using our Seaweed Vegetable Broth in a ramen at the restaurant next weekend. Lovely stroll and nap in the National Historic Site this afternoon. We chatted a bit about the menu for this Monday. We are going to do a brunch at 11:00 and then serve family style until 5:00. It was lovely spending this cozy, foggy afternoon with our guests. We’re doing it again on Thursday at 1:00. We have one guest reserved who doesn’t eat seafood, so we are adding our Dirty Rice with Seared Chicken and Korean Pancake to the menu which also includes Gumbo with Boulettes and Scallops, Mussel Remoulade, Partridge Berry Juice and dessert. Let Courtney know if you would like to join this Family-Style service. Our Family-Style meals are between $47-$55 per person, depending on how many dishes are served.

We suggest reaching out to Courtney on those days to touch base and see what’s on the go. We might be out harvesting seaweed on those days, but we often have capacity to serve a few meals and have a chat. Please note that if you are staying at our Snug Harbour Rental with Outdoor Bath house https://gratescoveco.ca/guest-houses/snug-harbour-house/ or are on a boat tour or have a scheduled seaweed bath, meals will be available any day of the week. We often stock the fridge at the Snug Harbour House with meals that can be enjoyed throughout your stay, and we offer picnic backpacks for those on our zodiac boat tours or who have a scheduled seaweed bath.
As we grow in our work with seaweed at 7 Fathoms Skin Care and are just getting older in general, we are making a conscious effort to adapt many of our dishes so that they are healthier and more functional and are just as or even more delicious. Our seaweed-vegetable broth will replace our seafood broth. Our main sauces- our Etouffee, Gumbo & Couvillion will be made with a gluten-free roux and since they will be made with our seaweed-vegetable broth, these dishes will also be vegan. Seared Cod, Snow Crab, Scallop, Mussels, Sous Vide Chicken Breast, etc. can further build these dishes. But, if you are vegan, you can just add more vegetable to your meal. We’ll also still have many of your favorites, and we will continue to experiment with new dishes.

What a mood Grates Cove was in for the eclipse! It was a magical, wild experience in the path of totality at the edge of the world. We served about 35 people at our restaurant yesterday. There were 21 hikers from . (Thank you so much for allowing us to use your spectacular images of the eclipse in Grates Cove.) There were some of our regulars who drove about two hours from St. John’s and surrounding areas. And then there were people who found themselves at the edge and found our open door and wandered in and wondered what was going on! What was going on was some great conversation, a shared experience, and some food! Our restaurant, Bayieu, at Grates Cove Co. is growing to be a place where we can test the use of seaweed in our dishes. We have developed a delicious seaweed vegetable broth that has replaced our seafood broth at our restaurant. Guests experienced this in our Jambalaya and our Creole BBQ Shrimp dishes yesterday. We have also developed a partridge berry kelp beverage that will soon replace the partridgeberry juice that we have been serving for years.
Through our research and work at our sister company , we understand that the seaweed extracts that this company develops can be used to develop products on both the skin and food side that will help to promote the health of the Gut-Skin Axis.
It was a lot of fun talking with our guests about this yesterday. We joked that everyone got their serving of seaweed bioactives.

Storm watching! Our Harbour View Guests checked in just in time yesterday. We stocked their fridge full of yummies from the restaurant- Snow Crab & Shrimp Etouffee, Seared Cod with Coconut Curry Lentil, Crepes, omelettes and blueberry juice. Not bad for a bit of storm food. Hope they enjoy the storm, the food, and the snowshoeing after the storm. P.S. imagine what that view is actually like today. Wild!
