Thanksgiving weekend at the cottage is so special, and we were lucky to spend it together quietly, sharing in the peacefulness of Salerno Lake in autumn. πŸ’•

Pleased to announce our partnership with ! Hailing from Paris, Astrid hand-crafts artisanal chocolate (and other goodies), which we had the pleasure of enjoying as a reward for each cottage-closing task.

**Use code MCINTOSH10 for 10% off your order now until Dec 1st! Delivery available across Ontario.**

➑️ Swipe to see the mouth-watering Toasted Dark Praline, and Gigi enjoying a Vegan Praline.

Some highlights from our season-closing weekend:
🍁 Fall colours and leaves galore for jumping!
🦌 Seeing deer by the side of the road
🍫 Indulging in fantastic artisanal chocolates
🧩 Working on puzzles with the kids
🍿 Cuddling up for a movie
πŸ”₯ Having our fireplace officially certified by a WETT inspector (big time grown up excitement on this one!)
πŸ—ΏAttempting to flip a massive rock to open up the beach a bit more by purely mechanical advantage of a lever (a long tree limb) and fulcrum (another stone) - Γ  la Stone Henge
🎣 Taking the kids fishing in the middle of the lake

Things not shown:
♻️ Recycling puzzles that had too many missing pieces (to be replaced, no sweat!)
πŸš£πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ Pulling in the dock, pulling out the water line - and discovering that the lake now has dreaded
πŸ›οΈ Bagging all the bedding for laundering, bagging all the mattresses, and generally covering everything for winter
🌬️ Clearing the driveway and steps of leaves in record time again, thanks to my blower by

As always, the time was too short, and it's hard to believe that we've once again come to the end of the season. With any luck, we'll have posts up soon to share some memories from our guests this summer, and a long-awaited cottage tour.

Until then, we hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful autumn! πŸ‚

What a spectacular solar storm!

We're en route right now and hoping to catch a few glimpses of this around midnight when the moon sets and the colours really come out to play. 🀞🏼

πŸƒAutumnal vibes at the cottage 🍁

Look at the RICH colours on those leaves! Imagine what Thanksgiving weekend might look like once all the leaves hit maximum autumnal colours.✨

It's been a very busy summer season - at the cottage and personally, for our family. As usual, we had some of the most wonderful guests and many good friends visit us this summer. πŸ’š

We can't wait to drop pics in the coming months, as life (hopefully) slows down a bit again, including an updated and long-overdue cottage tour! Will we be eating our words? "Next week will be better..." 🀣 We'll see... But here's to hoping for some fabulous, calm autumn weekends in the meantime.

Far from thrilling, but we finally replaced the gross clear plastic taps in the kitchen (see left side, hot) with easier-to-clean silver taps, sourced from a different broken tap (see right side, cold).

Might seem silly to not simply replace the entire tap but two considerations come into play: first, winterize-ability of the tap and second, environmental impact of tossing one fully-functional tap to replace it with another, just for looks. This particular tap isn't super attractive, but the removable cartridges in the handles make it super easy to clear the pipes/lines and winterize with plumbing antifreeze. Newer taps with the attractive swan neck and single handle are not so easy to prep for freezing temps and risk bursting. So for now, we stick to this!

Happy 2024, and holy moly, it's been a long time!! πŸ‘‹

We were regrettably quiet on Facebook last year as we navigated medical uncertainty and neuropathic pain (David) and trying to get cottage projects done with two small kids in tow.

Installing part 2 of the new dock turned from a simple project into a small nightmare, when we realized that we needed to have incredibly heavy anchor points in the lake to stabilize the dock against currents. Transferring cement weights from the parking pad, down the hill, and into the lake became a near-solo one-woman project for Monika, as David's legs weren't up to it.

Pleased to say that despite the challenges of 2023, we managed to:
- install the new floating dock ramps and anchor the entire thing;
- hang a new ceiling fan in the bunkie (with "help" from kids!);
- replace an old (and unattractive) ceiling fan in the main room of the cottage with one that matches the 'tiffany-style' fan;
- mount a StarLink dish at the front of the cottage;
- put in place a new, sleek BBQ with side burner.

We also finally stumbled upon a likely cause for David's neuropathy and started on a treatment course that has brought relief and hope. Here's to a less stressful 2024!

This Calgary Flames fan hauled in quite the catch off the dock last summer (2022) and his family graciously shared this photo with us. Well done!!

SUMMER 2023 BOOKINGS

The cottage is fully booked for Summer 2023 with all return guests (we are so fortunate!). We also hope to enjoy our first summer week as a family of four at the cottage in July, and will be sure to share photos and videos of our activities.

Our first opening is September 12th, 2023, with lower rates available in the 'off-season' on a per-night basis - no minimum booking.

We look forward to updating you on our activities this spring as the weather warms up and until then, remember your vitamin D3 and zinc through the rest of "winter".
