We are coming to Sydney

This coming Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, Dream Wings will be in Sydney NS.
Weather permitting, we would like to invite children with disabilities and their families to join us at the Sydney airport for some fun in the skies.

Please contact Dream Wings and leave us a message with your child’s age and medical condition.

Please note we have a limited number of spots and priority is given to children with Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and children facing other serious challenges.

We are looking forward meeting you.

Another day that our hearts are filled! These kids are truly amazing. Thanks again to everyone involved, this is not possible without each of you. Thank you to the families who come and spend the day with us, and especially thank you to our amazing pilots whom make each flight possible and such a fantastic experience for each of these special children!

We are well in to our 2024 Dream Wings season and already facing a few problems. Last Saturday flying with 11 year old Chloe who is non verbal and lives with Cerebral Palsy, in her excitement she mustered all her strength and coordination skills to reach over and grab my arm in an attempt to say thank you for the experience she was having. I got all chocked up and turned in to a lump of mushed potatoes. Not good for the strong pilot image.
On top of that, after we landed she didn’t want to get off the airplane. She wanted to go up again.

Tomorrow, Saturday June 1st, we have another 6 flights scheduled out of the Halifax airport and we can’t wait.
Our Dream Wings Aviation program is dedicated to children with disabilities. It is free, but most importantly it is a lot of fun.

Send a message and talk to our coordinator Amanda Countway to reserve your spot and let’s leave a few smiles up there by the clouds.
( Dream Wings flights in Sydney will start in the later part of June, early July ).

Dream wings 2024, Halifax airport, May 20th 2024
We had a great start to our 2024 Dream Wings season with 6 flights out of the Halifax Airport!
The kids had a great flight and they even got to talk to a couple CF18 pilots and watch the airplanes start up, taxi and take off in front of their eyes. Parents and children were very excited.
Thanks to everyone involved! Thank you to Shell aerocentre, Christine, Jim and the rest of the crew for allowing us to use your space.
Thanks to our amazing pilots Dimitri Neonakis and Derek Countway as well as Amanda Countway for all their hard work into making this successful.

Taking a 16 year old on a flight to introduce her/him to Aviation and spark their interest, is something I do often without a second thought. Getting a message (like the one below) from their parents a year later, is what keeps me going.

Congrats to 17 year old Harrison Fulthorpe on receiving his Private Pilots Licence. Wishing him a great career in Aviation.

Happy Mother’s Day

We finally got a break from the weather to start our 2023 Dream Wings flights for kids.
We have set up 6 flights this afternoon at the Halifax airport where 6 mothers with their children will enjoy a sightseeing flight over the city for Mother’s Day.

We need some help from the weather.

Alright kids, we are stuck a bit. The weather is not letting us take off to start our 2023 Dream Wings season. I even drew the word “help” up in the sky hoping for good weather tomorrow, but no joy.

We are going to have to wait one more week 😞 😞
Remember the number one rule of flying …..SAFETY FIRST

So hang in there a bit longer, we will get airborne soon 🙂 🙂

MAKE A WISH

It’s that time of year again where I become your private pilot.

This year I have chosen to run an aviation contest to support the Make A Wish Foundation for I hold a special place in my heart for children with critical illnesses.
I believe in the work that the Make A Wish Foundation is doing for children and ask you to please enter my contest to help the Foundation continue making children’s wishes come true.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE FLIGHT

Q. What kind of flight is this?

A. A sightseeing flight at low level to see places of your own interest, such as your town, your home, Peggy’s Cove, Cape Split, The Bay of Fundy etc, to enjoy a once in a life time experience that only General Aviation can offer.

Q. When can I take the flight if I win?

A. Whenever you wish - There’s no time limit.

Q. Which airport do we fly out of ?

A. Halifax, Yarmouth, Liverpool, Debert, Trenton, Port Hawkesbury or Digby ( which ever airport is more convenient for you)

Q. What type of aircraft will I be flying in?

A. Cirrus SR22 single engine piston driven aircraft

Q. Who can I bring with me on the flight ?

A. Depending on weight and balance of the aircraft, usually three adults, or two adults a child and your pet if you wish ( that would be fun), one adult and two children etc…there’s plenty of room.

Q. How long is the flight ?

A. It is usually one hour, but if you are having too much fun…we fly longer.

Q. What about Safety ?

A. The Cirrus SR22 is one of the safest and most technologically advanced single engine piston ever build. Some of its safety features include a ballistic parachute system which in case of an emergency it is designed to bring the aircraft with its occupants safely and gently to the ground.
For added safety the flight will be conducted in clear and good weather.
The pilot has over 23 year experience with thousands of hours in the air.

So, let’s do this. Let’s make a child’s Wish come True, and let’s make your own Wish come true. I promise it will be a flight you will never forget.
