The name of our bi-monthly company newsletter derives from nautical terminology and custom. A mainbrace is the line with pulley used to hoist the mainsail of the sort of wooden sailing ship traditional to Atlantic Canadian waters. The term "splicing the mainbrace" r

efers to the Royal Navy custom of rewarding a ship's crew for a job particularly well done by serving everyone an extra tot of rum. To do this, the Captain gave the order, "Splice the Mainbrace!" As a beverage alcohol agency in Atlantic Canada which is committed to doing the job particularly well for our clients around the world, what could be more natural than to associate ourselves with the notion of Splicing the Mainbrace?

Happy to see the white wines from return to again. They are continually some of the best value white wines available in NS. Max Barreau is a 5th generation winemaker from Entre-Deux-Mers in Bordeaux and continues with both the traditional family wines but also his own range of modern/hip/funky wines to suit the more natural enthusiasts. He was kind enough to pick me up and tour me through their vineyards and winery facility during my recent visit to Bordeaux. Merci Max! Available at The Port while they last!

Incredible visit on Friday at Chateau Canon in Saint-Émilion courtesy of XM wines, one of their negociants. The grapes were just harvested the day prior and the teams were already in the vineyard with the horses ploughing the next day. No rest when you have this level of commitment to quality. And it really is reflected in the quality of the wines. After the tour of their vineyards, facility and cellar, we had lunch in the hall with their harvest team. We were poured the 2014 and 2017 Canon wines. Very floral, elegant, balanced wines. Truly one of the stars of the appellation.
