Always happy to greet visitors! For an immersive experience, walk across on the sidewalk, while you contemplate the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) that went into imagining, designing, and building this bridge. Without power tools.

You’re looking at the longest covered bridge in the world! That’s right, the Hartland Covered Bridge in New Brunswick holds the record. This was a particularly exciting site for our mobile network operations analyst, who was visiting from his home in Manitoba for employee training.

Voici le plus long pont couvert au monde! L’un de nos analystes en communications cellulaires originaire du Manitoba était en formation dans la région et a décidé de faire le détour vers Hartland au Nouveau-Brunswick pour visiter ce site historique!

N.B. Day weekend celebrations in Upper Valley communities

Full weekend of fun in Hartland, including Farmerr's Market on Monday, as Woodstock offers N.B. Day events and the kickoff to Old Home Week

By Matthew Walton
July 30, 2022

There will be plenty of options for entertainment this New Brunswick Day in the River Valley. Some fun and festivities are launching throughout the weekend. Old Home Week's initial celebrations coincide with the long weekend.

Hartland has a busy and diverse weekend planned.

Beginning from the arena parking lot, there will be a Bike Experience, starting at 11 a.m., and will be approximately an hour excursion on the Becaguimec Trail. Bring your own bike, helmet and water. Youth under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

At the Walter Chestnut Library, at 10 a.m., a children's art and STEAM Activity is scheduled. Yard games will be available for families. Paint the Heartland will also have some artists and artisans on site.

More family fun activities will occur at the Waterfront from 1 to 3 p.m. The meeting point is at the Main Street parking lot.

Saturday evening, the band Mid-Life Crisis will entertain on the Waterfront as part of a Beer Gardens hosted by the Hartland Legion. The entrance fee is $10 per person and limited to those 19 and older. Music begins at 7 p.m. and will go until 11 p.m.

On Sunday, July 31, the Covered Bridge Golf and Country Club will host a breakfast from 7 to 10 p.m. At noon, the Kayak on the St. John River event will take place from the Tourist Bureau Parking Lot. Bring your own kayak for a leisurely paddle.

The always entertaining Fireman's Muster will take place in the parking lot beside the library from 1 to 4 p.m. Hartland Firefighters will compete against other area fire departments.

At 10 p.m., the town will deliver a fireworks display from the Waterfront.

On New Brunswick Day, more than 100 vendors will gather for the Covered Bridge Market from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Antique cars and Corvettes will be on display during the afternoon. Entertainment for children will be available for the day, including balloons, henna tattoos, face painting, a photo booth and a bouncy castle.

Musical entertainment will take place in the library parking lot throughout the day. It will begin with line dancers at 11 a.m., followed by fiddlers, more line dancing, and singer Jason Shaw. The band Stinking Rich will finish out the day of entertainment.

In Woodstock on Monday, with Old Home Week underway, there will be a horse pull at the Connell Park Grandstand, from 1 to 4 p.m., as well as Miss New BrunswickTalent Show held at the McCain Theatre at 7 p.m.

At 12:30 p.m., Capture Therapeutics will host the inaugural Capture Day event. There will be a dunk tank on location with Capture Team members ready to be dunked. They'll have relay races and an obstacle course for children.

The Capture team will offer a 30-minute fitness class with prizes every hour. The first class will begin at 1 p.m. It will kick off with Get Fit with Sydney, followed by Dance Fitness and Abs Fitness.

This event is to raise awareness and funds for their Gratitude Project, which assists low-income patients in accessing the therapeutic care they need at little to no cost.

This event takes place at 100 Jones Street.

Atlantic Cinemas will screen free matinee movies on Monday afternoon.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carleton York will host an N.B. Day Pet Parade from 2–3 p.m. from the AYR Motor Centre.

Florenceville-Bristol's Potato World Museum will host a Show and Shine Car and Truck Show, beginning Sunday at 11 a.m., showcasing new and old vehicles.

Other communities are gearing up for future events, like Nackawic's Festival on the Bend, set for Aug. 13 to 20, and Perth-Andover's Larlee Creek Hullabaloo from Aug. 10 to 14.

Weekend events will provide plenty of opportunities to get into the communities and support many good causes and a great chance to witness locally-grown entertainment.
