This came up in my feed today. Anyone who has ever been to Ireland with me on a group will remember this haunting song, especially the ladies group when we stayed across the street from Kilmainham Jail where Padraig Pierse, Joseph Plunkett and the Irish Republican Brotherhood boys were held after the Easter Rising May 3, 1916. Ironically this group went to Ireland in the year of the 100th Anniversary of the Easter Rising in 2016.

Grace Gifford received news that her fiance, Joseph Plunkett, was to be executed the following morning. Grace purchased a ring from a jeweller in Dublin and persuaded a priest to let her marry Joseph before his ex*****on. Grace and Joseph were married in the prison chapel in Kilmainham jail, just hours before his death. The only witnesses were two guards, in addition to the priest. Grace returned to the jail after 2 am where they had their final meeting. With a guard counting down the 10 minutes they had together, Joseph was executed soon after along with the other 13 leaders by firing squad.

Anyways, enough of a history lesson, have a listen... it is haunting.
