Breaking news!

Document fraud is a serious crime in Canada.
It is against the law to lie or send false information or documents to IRCC. It’s called misrepresentation and can involve either falsifying or altering documents, such as:
• Passports and travel documents
• Visas
• Diplomas, degrees and apprenticeship or trade papers
• Certificates of birth, marriage, final divorce, annulment, separation or death
• Police certificates
You are responsible for all the information in your application, even if a representative fills it out for you. If you send false documents or information, we can refuse your application and forbid you from entering Canada for at least 5 years, among other consequences.

Canada has a proud history of providing protection to those most in need through our refugee resettlement programs. That includes refugees from the LGBTQI+ community. The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Rainbow Railroad and other referral organizations can identify LGBTQI+ refugees and refer them for resettlement in Canada.

We also support the LGBTQI+ community through the Rainbow Refugee Assistance Partnership with Rainbow Refugee. Through this life-saving program, Canadians have privately sponsored and helped resettle some 290 LGBTQI+ refugees to Canada since 2011.

Attention employers hiring temporary foreign workers from Mexico! Make sure workers applying to come to Canada know that they must apply for a work permit before they travel to Canada. They can’t apply at the port of entry when they arrive in Canada.
When a work permit application is approved, they will automatically receive a visa. They don’t need to apply for a visa separately.
If they are applying to work in the agricultural or seafood and fish processing industry in Canada, they should submit their application as soon as possible. It will be processed on a priority basis. https://www.canada.ca/.../campa.../eta-work-visa-mexico.html

Please read the articles for International Students.

Today, we announced that the Government of Canada will set an intake cap on international student permit applications to stabilize growth, for a period of two years. Details: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2024/01/canada-to-stabilize-growth-and-decrease-number-of-new-international-student-permits-issued-to-approximately-360000-for-2024.html
For 2024, the cap is expected to result in approximately 360,000 approved study permits, a decrease of 35% from 2023. Study permit renewals will not be impacted. Those pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, and elementary and secondary education are not included in the cap. Current study permit holders will not be affected.
To implement the cap, as of January 22, 2024, every study permit application submitted to IRCC will also require an attestation letter from a province or territory. Provinces and territories are expected to establish a process for issuing attestation letters to students by no later than March 31, 2024.
In order to better align the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program, we are changing the eligibility criteria:
• Starting September 1, 2024, international students who begin a study program that is part of a curriculum licensing arrangement will no longer be eligible for a postgraduation work permit upon graduation.
• Graduates of master’s and other short graduate-level programs will soon be eligible to apply for a 3-year work permit.
In the weeks ahead, open work permits will only be available to spouses of international students in master's and doctoral programs. The spouses of international students in other levels of study, including undergraduate and college programs, will no longer be eligible.

New: News Release International Students

Starting January 1, 2024, the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants will be raised to ensure that international students are better prepared for life in Canada. This threshold will be adjusted each year, similarly to other immigration programs. Learn more: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2023/12/revised-requirements-to-better-protect-international-students.html

For 2024, a single applicant will need to show they have $20,635 in addition to their first year of tuition and travel costs. This change will apply to new study permit applications received on or after January 1, 2024.

In addition, Minister Miller has provided an update on three temporary policies that were set to expire at the end of 2023, including the following:

• International students already in Canada, as well as applicants who have already submitted an application for a study permit as of December 7, 2023, will be able to work off-campus for more than 20 hours per week until April 30, 2024.

• The measure that has allowed international students to count time spent studying online towards the length of a future post-graduation work permit, as long as it constitutes less than 50% of the program of study, will continue to be in place for students who begin a study program before September 1, 2024.

• A temporary policy was introduced on three occasions to provide an additional 18-month work permit to post-graduation work permit holders as their initial work permit was expiring. Foreign nationals with a post-graduation work permit expiring up to December 31, 2023, remain eligible to apply. However, this temporary policy will not be extended further.

Canada is a top destination for international students, thanks to our high-quality educational institutions; our welcoming, diverse society; and the opportunities for some to work or immigrate permanently after graduation. While international students have contributed to life on campuses and innovat...
