It's been a loooooong time! So much has changed! SunRush Travel doesn't do bookings any more (my full time job takes up so much of my time and attention) but we are going to go back to setting up and "guiding" trips! We will be using Northstar Travel, the company I was associated with, to do bookings so that we have an excellent agency taking care of us!

And we've already got a trip in mind!

Though I'm taking a break due to life complications, I can recommend an excellent travel agent (who was the person that trained me) until I return.

As business for 2018 begins to build, we asked travel agents why they think travelers should never travel without an advisor behind them heading into the New Year.

It's that time of year again.... when we dread the coming winter months and start thinking about where we might go during the colder days!

Now is a great time to check your passport and renew it if your expiry date will be anytime before June 2016! Remember that some countries will refuse you entry if your passport expires within six (6) months of your entry date! You really, really don't want to land at your destination, only to be turned away at customs entry....

Watch for upcoming vacations specials that I'll start posting as the temperatures start dropping!

Travel Tip!!!

You may want to pass this one on to people that might be in this particular stage of their life!

Are you pregnant and traveling out of the country? If you are in the later stages of pregnancy, please consider out of country medical insurance for your baby! Many premature babies survive these days due to advanced medical procedures and equipment but it could be extremely costly if you are not covered. A recent story circulated about a mother who gave birth prematurely in Hawaii and the cost was astronomical. SHE had insurance; the baby did not! Insurance paid the mother's expenses but, sadly, not the child's.

Sometimes we need to pay a fee for peace of mind. That's what travel insurance is!

REMEMBER! Book with an agent that is looking out for you! Online companies never get to know you and aren't overly concerned about what happens once your credit card processes!!!

Travel Tip!!!

Have you checked your out of country medical coverage? Most people have coverage through their employee benefits. What you might not realize is that in this day and age of cutbacks, many companies have made benefits "leaner" to save on the bottom line. Your coverages may not be what it used to be! Call your insurance provider and check. If your coverage is less than $1 million, (I'm aware of coverages as low as $100K), do consider adding another coverage. It's not something any of us WANT to pay for but believe me, if you NEED it, you will be so glad you bought it.

Here's a deal for January 9th, 12th or 26th, for a 7 day trip!

The Sheraton Buganvilias in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for $1127.00/per person (includes the taxes).

This is an amazing hotel and it is a Sheraton so it lives up to the chain's standards! The service is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food! It is simply delicious! How do I know? I stayed here! One of the nicest resorts I've been to and one I wouldn't hesitate to return to! I can safely recommend this hotel and give it a 5 star rating! One thing that might put some people off is that the local residents visited on the Sunday we were there. I imagine this still happens but I enjoy the happy children enjoying themselves and the music and party that goes with happy people! The lineup at the buffet was a bit longer but that was made up by the additional items added to the buffet including much more of the authentic Mexican cuisine!!!

You have to book this quickly. This price is at least $300 to $400 below their regular seasonal rate!

PS - The last day of our trip here, I watched out my room window into the bay where a mama whale gave birth to her baby!!! I'll attach a picture though you can only see a bit of their back and a fin! The second picture is also mine and is a view from our room!

And....... we're back!

Winter is with us again so I guess I need to start posting trips so that everyone can think about warmer climates and possibly choose a little piece of paradise to visit!

I'll try to post a last minute as well as a trip 6 to 8 weeks out so that those that are more adventurous and have the freedom to pack and run at the drop of a hat can, and those that need a little more time to plan and request time off of work get that option.

A word about Last Minute Packages!....

You'll find your very best prices for last minute packages when the flights are due to leave in the next 5 days! For instance; for $570 you can be on the flight tomorrow for the Riu Turquesa in Holguin, Cuba! Can you pack that fast???

But last minute vacations can be anything within the next 6 weeks and you'll still see some great prices! But don't hesitate! The package can be snapped up by others pretty quickly! And once the bookings start, the prices rise!

Think of it like the stock market. The vacation company has bought a certain number of rooms at a resort and they might have 20 left to sell 6 weeks prior to the flight date. So they drop it to a low price. As sales start to come in, they could possibly raise the price to make more profit. So decide quickly!

We personally missed on a great deal at a 5 star last year that was about $1200 below it's regular pricing (that was per person!) We waited for friends to decide if they wanted to go and it slipped through my fingers! I decided THAT won't happen again because now I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford that spot again!

And remember, ANY travel deal you see can be booked at the same rate by your travel agent. She/He will offer you great personal service and is always concerned about your welfare when you're away so it's just a better idea to be a client rather than a number!

Remember, WE CARE!!!

I just saw a comment from a honeymoon couple on a hotel review saying how they were a wee bit upset that the hotel didn't acknowledge that it was their honeymoon with anything special. After reading a bit further, I realized that they had booked online with one of the number of online services.

That, unfortunately, is the problem! Online services don't really care what your celebration might be! If you want those personal touches, please remember that a travel agent cares that you would like to be pampered on your honeymoon, recognized for 25 years of marriage or are celebrating that big milestone birthday! We can make those arrangements with your hotel and make you feel just a bit more special!

Oh, and one other situation I actually was able to help with. Two ladies were once stuck in Cancun due to weather back in Toronto. Their flight was cancelled and when they called the "online" number, they were told nothing was available and "good luck..."! I got the panicked call and proceeded to book them a reasonably priced flight home. Fortunately they received a call from their original airline and they got a flight home at no further cost and I was able to cancel the flight I booked for them (WestJet allows totally refundable flight cancellations within 24 hours of booking!) She was grateful and asked how much she owed me. I told her the only thing she owed me was to book with a travel agent - any agent - for future travels. Due to a government regulation, the online prices you see are also ALWAYS available to travel agents. And we actually CARE that our clients get home without added stress!
