My Story
Hi! I'm Niki, a travel addict, born and raised in Canada by my South African father and German mother. Here is my story... No matter how often I travel, I can't seem to get enough. But there is one problem - every time I go on a holiday I fall off the fitness wagon. I've been on countless all inclusive vacations where I eat all the food and drink all the drinks and though I’ve had a blast, I come home feeling like I need another vacation. A few years ago, after going through the worst break up in history, I grabbed my backpack and took off to Thailand. It was a different kind of holiday, in the most amazing way. There was no 5 star resorts, no heels and no bright lipstick (my only regret). And although I enjoy the finer things in life, I also appreciate local living. One could say I'm a “put me in a luxurious villa but take me to the street to eat” kind of girl. Once I got a taste of Thailand everything changed. I quit my corporate life and really hit the road. From over-water bungalows in Fiji to driving through New Zealand in a camper van, I was determined to spend all my savings and do everything I had ever dreamed of!
Because I gain weight by simply breathing, exercising while on vacation is crucial. The problem I have is finding the motivation, especially when I'm alone. So I searched for a "healthy holiday" online but couldn't find what I was looking for. What I wanted was to go to a destination and have someone (self-proclaimed experts are my fav) greet me, hang out with me, show me around and exercise with me. I didn't want a retreat, I can't be on someone else’s schedule and I didn't want to spend a fortune on a group tour with all my excursions picked for me. What I wanted didn't exist! So, I did it on my own. I went to Bali, stayed close to a Hot Yoga Studio (Jiwa, my fav), did my hot yoga/hot pilates in the morning and indulged throughout the day with drinks at sunset and dessert at dinner. Before I knew it, I was making dinner reservations for 10+ people, solo travellers that I had scooped up along the way. I realized that solo travellers don't necessarily want to travel alone. They do it because they don't have anyone to travel with. I also realized how many women refrain from travelling altogether, for the same reason. This is why I created My Healthy Holiday. I understand that travelling alone can be intimidating. I want to create opportunities for women to experience the breathtaking and life-changing moments that I know are possible through travelling.
Treat yourself to a Healthy Holiday and reconnect with your mind, body, heart and soul. Make yourself a priority and may this Healthy Holiday begin your inner journey to self-love via self-care. You are worth it. Xo Niki Jean
