The Arts Council of Ladysmith and District is an extensive arts organization in Ladysmith BC. Supported by three staff members and a board of directors, we are made up of members who support the organization through a yearly membership which gives them access to a variety of arts opportunities and resources. We currently have TWO locations

Members can apply to submit artwork in our monthly members exhibitions and gallery store. Members also receive our weekly newsletter with arts opportunities. Can be featured on our social media channels and be a part of our art around town projects to have their art in local businesses. The Arts Council offers classes and workshops in a variety of mediums for all skill levels. And we host various events including artist talks, the Spring Art Tour, our biennial Ladysmith Fine Art and Fine Craft Show and our popular August Arts On The Avenue Festival. Tag us on social media

The surreal beauty of the ocean blues and mystical rainforest greens make Vancouver Island a truly inspirational place for artists of all mediums. Intrigued by the cedar sculptures, carved by the ocean itself, washed up on shore to be captured in oil and acrylic on canvas, in their first dual art show will feature over 20 new original paintings, art cards and prints.
Our oceans and forests which work together to provide the fresh air necessary to keep our planet alive, have been the inspiration for many of the paintings in this exhibit - the Water’s Edge. As strong believers in keeping our Water’s Edge safe and healthy for all to enjoy, portion of proceeds will be donated to the Living Oceans organization. www.livingoceans.org

Come and learn the Italic hand! ✒️
The italic alphabet originated in Italy during the Renaissance. The letters are beautiful and graceful, quite different from the heavier gothic hand that was used during that time. In this four-week course, we will become familiar with the lowercase letters and explore the capitals as well, all the while using a dip pen and ink! Develop or expand your calligraphy skills, and learn to pen beautiful letters to customize any project.

World Poetry Day is March 21! We asked our members who are poets to share a poem with us leading up to the big day. Enjoy a poem by Ian Cognito.
⭐World Poetry Day is March 21! In honour of that special day we are celebrating our members who are local poets. Today's poem is by Angela Spence titled "Imagine That". . Angela enjoys the challenge of writing poems, when given a theme. Her preferred style is mainly lighthearted, simple, lyrical and with a little humour if appropriate. . About Angela: I live in Chemainus, am retired now, but used to run a Bed & Breakfast in Ladysmith. Before that we lived in England for 12 years before returning to Canada in 2003. I have done a fair amount of travelling, which I Iove, have been in various choirs, theatre groups and in the past was a member of the Vancouver Scottish Country Dance demonstration team.
Come in to the Ladysmith Gallery to see the new arrivals from Jason Harris before they are gone. These hummingbirds are hand carved, yellow cedar wall sculptures and are absolutely beautiful!

ABOUT ART
Welcome to the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery home to the Ladysmith & District Arts Council. We are a community volunteer run gallery located in the heart of Ladysmith, BC. We recieved charity status a few months ago.
We host monthly exhibitions with a variety of themes and we rent out our beautiful space to other arts groups and artists. Supporting local artists is important to us, we look to artists in the community of Ladysmith and surrounding to fill our gift shop and shows.
Membership is required to participate in our monthly exhibitions and in our fine art show that happens ever two years.
In 2017, the gallery welcomed over 11,000 residents and visitors. From January to August of this year, we have already had 10,000 people walk through the gallery.
Located minutes from downtown, and transfer beach, the gallery overlooks the water and marina. If your in the area, please stop by for a visit. You won’t be disappointed.
