Cadet Wilfred Henry Winnett (1894-1918) was born and raised in Los Angeles California by a former “Londoner” father. In the summer of 1917 Wilfred, along with his father and brother Earl came to Toronto to enlist in the Canadian forces. Winnett joined the Royal Air Force and was placed at Camp Borden where he died in a “flying accident” in May 1918. According to local sources the family were not informed of his death until they had read about it in the morning paper. He was buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on May 27, 1918.
