La primera vez que los venezolanos fuimos a votar fue para escoger una reina de belleza. Hace 80 años, en 1944, los venezolanos vivimos por primera vez la experiencia del voto universal, directo y secreto. El documental 'La Reina del Pueblo' cuenta cómo la elección de la reina de una serie de béisbol se convirtió en el primer paso para la construcción de una sociedad democrática. Sinopsis: Las Pupusas es una historia protagonizada por millones de salvadoreños quienes, a lo largo del planeta, son fieles testigos de un amor incondicional por su platillo típico por excelencia. Más de 1,500 años resumidos en una serie documental con historias de vida, ciencia, tradición, moda, amor, pero sobre todo la sonrisa de un pueblo que ha disfrutado por generaciones de un manjar que mantiene lleno el corazón.

Reel Reflections: ‘La suprema’, directed by Felipe Holguín Caro (Colombia, 2023).

Synopsis: In a town erased from the maps where there's not even electricity, a girl dreams of boxing. When she learns her uncle will box for the world title and it will be broadcast live on tv, she and the community will do everything to watch the fight, while battling oblivion.

Sinopsis: En un pueblo borrado de los mapas donde ni siquiera hay electricidad, una niña sueña con boxear. Cuando se entera de que su tío boxeará por el título mundial y que se transmitirá en vivo por televisión, ella y la comunidad harán todo lo posible para ver la pelea, mientras luchan contra el olvido.

Winner of the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema– Documentary 🏆

Synopsis: What happens to the collective memory of an oppressed country if the ones who report on the oppression fail to remember? This is the question Oscar-nominated Chilean director Maite Alberdi’s documentary asks of its main subjects: renowned journalist Augusto Góngora, who is in late-stage dementia; and Paulina Urrutia, a culture minister and his life partner of 25 years.

Sinopsis: Augusto, un conocido periodista cultural chileno, y Paulina, actriz y ex ministra de cultura, han estado juntos y enamorados desde hace más de 25 años. Cuando la memoria de Augusto empieza a debilitarse, aprenderán a reinventar la forma de relacionarse entre ellos, haciendo evidente que el amor que se tienen y su sentido del humor son inquebrantables.

🇨🇦1967: Canada Welcomes the World is a documentary project focused on the national pavilions of the countries that participated in Montreal's 1967 World Exhibition [Expo 67].
Most of the images that we have published are part of the 'Canadian Corporation for the 1967 World Exhibition fonds' held and preserved at Library and Archives Canada | Bibliothèque et Archives Canada.

In 1967, a high-school band from Southwestern Ontario was invited to perform at Expo 67, the largest Category I International World Exhibition of its time and an event that shaped Canada for generations. 🇨🇦1967: Canada Welcomes the World is a documentary project focused on the national pavilions of the countries that participated in Montreal's 1967 World Exhibition [Expo 67]. For more images, follow
Next Saturday, September 30th, don’t miss the premiere of “The School Band Trip”, the story of a group of high-school students from Southwestern Ontario who went to Montreal to perform at Expo 67. Elgin County Museum, Sep 30, 2 pm.
Every pavilion is accessible through photos, architectural drawings and promotional materials. What did those countries showcase at Expo 67? What kind of images were Canadian people presented with?
The archival images and a series of short documentary films will be exhibited at the Oakville Museum | QEPCCC (June-August) and the Elgin County Museum (September to December).

Africa Place
In the late 50s and early 60s many of the former European colonies in became independent countries. It was an exciting time. After centuries of imperialism and exploitation, the African peoples were eager to rule their own destinies. Many of these new countries introduced themselves to the world for the first time at Expo 67.
was the pavilion designed to house the newly independent nations of Africa. It was designed by John Andrew, who later on became the architect of the CN Tower .
