I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Robben Island, site of the prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years of his 27 year prison sentence. Just outside of Cape Town, South Africa, Robben island was also a former l***r colony as well as a base in WWII before they housed political prisoners during the Apartheid era. Today it is a museum and tours are led by former political prisoners and guards. This is where Mandela wrote his memoir, “Long Walk to Freedom” in secret. It is a must read to understand his incredible story.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens outside Cape Town, South Africa. Beautiful plant life and stunning views. My favourite was from the tree top canopy walk. The gardens are easily accessible by the Cape Town Hop on Hop off Bus. You can spend a full day hiking around the massive grounds getting lost among all the little garden pathways. A wonderful quiet activity away from the hustle and bustle of the city. [email protected]

Our day in and South Africa. Felt pampered at with the infinity pool and view of the golf course and mountains on one side and vineyards on the other. We explored Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, with its charming scenery, shops and market, and were treated to a wine tasting at . Also along the way was a stop outside where Nelson Mandela spent the last 14 months of his 27 year sentence before his release.

, South Africa…. A 2 hr flight from JoBerg to George, then a scenic drive along the Garden Route to the pretty retirement community of Knysna. We took a boat cruise to visit the majestic featherbednaturereserve for a scenic hike and sumptuous lunch, followed by a visit to beautiful shark waters of (my first time at the Indian Ocean!) We ended with a little shopping and then dinner at Dockside Seafood restaurant capped off with a perfect cocktail and a magnificent sunset.

night one photos. Beautiful atmosphere living among the trees! Within a few minutes spotted a warthog and monkeys on a roof. A wicked storm blew in at dinner to give a full experience! So enjoyed dinner I forgot to take photos so will be sure to document tomorrow after our day long safari!
Time for bed! Up at 4:15 for a 5:00am start!

Today we left Johannesburg for a scenic drive to our next destination:
Highlights include a stop at (one of the largest canyons on earth) and . The scenery changed so dramatically along the way it was truly spectacular! I will post the hotel picture and videos in a separate post.

Today on our Spectacular South Africa tour with we visited the , including the Nelson Mandela exhibit, as well as had lunch at a local shebeen and tour through growing Soweto.

Our group of 19 with made it to our final destination… South Africa! 🇿🇦
Everything went so smoothly… starting with a hometown pickup at our Expedia Cruises London South office, and group transport (champagne included) to Toronto Airport. We had plenty of time to check our bags and get to the gate at and we even left early on our flight to Amsterdam. Our flight to Amsterdam arrived early so we had a lot of time and were not under stress to meet our next flight with KLM to Johannesburg. We were given boarding passes for both flights and our luggage was checked straight through so all we had to do when we got to was get to our gate for the next flight.
11 hours later 🤪 we arrived!
Things couldn’t have been easier when we arrived at Johannesburg after picking up our luggage our tour guide was waiting for us and whisked us away to our hotel for the next two nights at the stunning in Johannesburg, South Africa. [email protected]
