Hi everyone ☺️ lots of questions and interest the past few days. Thank you as always for the positive response and support. The big question: When are we opening? The answer: We are hopeful we will open this summer. We do not have a definite date and are not yet accepting bookings. Keep following us on social media. The moment we can say with confidence when we open we will make a post. Thank you again for following our journey. We see every like, share, and comment. It means the world to us. Some of you have been following along since the very beginning 💗. Thank you for your patience. We are all average people with full time jobs working on this dream.

👋 Hi! Now that you know a little about us and who we are, we will get back to posting updates on the progression of the build. We also want to acknowledge that there are other people who work tirelessly on the project, but they are a little camera shy.

We are working hard to get essential infrastructure in the ground before Jack Frost shows up, the interior wooden cladding is well on its way to being completed, and landscaping is in progress. All in all, we have made some big strides and finished some major components in the last few weeks. We are hopeful that we can get all of the units in shape for a spring/summer opening. Thank you for keeping up with us and all the continued support and kind words - it means more than you realize.

Continuing with our introductions. Meet co-owner Alexander (Sandy) Goodyear. Born and raised in Lumsden, Sandy developed a passion for travel. From solo drives along the breathtaking coastlines of Ireland and exploring the majestic fjords of Norway to soaking up the sun on Miami's beaches, Sandy has gathered a wealth of travel knowledge over the years. He brings his experiences and love for adventure back to his hometown.

Often times, he can be found spending quality time at the cabin with his partner, Caroline, or enjoying some type of motorized recreation, always with an eye out for hidden gems and natural beauty found in every corner of the province. Sandy maintains a deep-rooted love for Lumsden and frequently returns home for visits. If you spot him around town, don’t hesitate to say hello!

Looks like a cold air funnel was spotted off the coast of Lumsden today!

A cold air funnel is a small, short-lived tornado-like funnel that forms in cool, unsettled weather. Unlike a tornado, it’s usually weak and doesn’t touch the ground. Cold air funnels form when cool air moves over warm ground or water (in this case the water was warmer than the air) creating small, spinning columns of air. They look dramatic but rarely cause damage.

Next in our introductions: Meet co-owner Tracy Gibbons, lifelong fan of the Kittiwake Coast. Originally from Botwood, Tracy grew up visiting the sandy shores in Lumsden and surrounding areas, describing her first visit as "pure magic." After earning her Bachelor’s in Social Work in St. John’s, she and her partner, Matt, chose Lumsden as their home, sharing a dream of developing local tourism and growing their family.

A passionate environmental advocate, Tracy founded and chairs the Lumsden Beach Committee. She loves creating, reading, and spending time in nature, whether it's the beach or the woods. If you reach out on social media, Tracy will likely be the one to respond—she’s always happy to chat!

It's about time we start introducing ourselves. We will begin with introducing you to co-owner and founder Matthew (Matt) Gibbons. The vision of Wrecking Harbour began with Matt as a simple sketch of a series of rooflines and with the help of our architectural designer, developed into what you see today. Born and raised in Lumsden, he lived in St. John’s for several years before returning home to work toward his vision. Matt always dreamed of owning a business that could serve as a creative outlet and he looks forward to seeing Wrecking Harbour reach its full potential and grow into a tourism destination worthy of the beautiful area in which it is located.

Matt is a family man, cares deeply for the environment and local history, and is happiest when he has a guitar in his hands. If you see him out around, don’t hesitate to say hello and have a chat about all things tourism and community.

🍂 The crisp fall air is starting to set in. Perfect timing. We have our balcony rails installed, and now we can safely sit on the decks with a good book, a hot cup of coffee, and the rhythmic sound of the ocean. ☕️📚🌊

Lumsden residents: 🔍Wrecking Harbour is looking to incorporate local family traditions and history into our décor. With bulk clean-up week ongoing, you may have found items you no longer need, such as old buoys, anchors, traps, fishing lines, tea cups, or oil lamps. If you have anything that reflects the area's rich history and might interest tourists, please reach out. Lumsden has a deep-rooted history of family lines working here, and we want to showcase that to our guests. ⚓️🌊
