Next in our introductions: Meet co-owner Tracy Gibbons, lifelong fan of the Kittiwake Coast. Originally from Botwood, Tracy grew up visiting the sandy shores in Lumsden and surrounding areas, describing her first visit as "pure magic." After earning her Bachelor’s in Social Work in St. John’s, she and her partner, Matt, chose Lumsden as their home, sharing a dream of developing local tourism and growing their family.

A passionate environmental advocate, Tracy founded and chairs the Lumsden Beach Committee. She loves creating, reading, and spending time in nature, whether it's the beach or the woods. If you reach out on social media, Tracy will likely be the one to respond—she’s always happy to chat!

It's about time we start introducing ourselves. We will begin with introducing you to co-owner and founder Matthew (Matt) Gibbons. The vision of Wrecking Harbour began with Matt as a simple sketch of a series of rooflines and with the help of our architectural designer, developed into what you see today. Born and raised in Lumsden, he lived in St. John’s for several years before returning home to work toward his vision. Matt always dreamed of owning a business that could serve as a creative outlet and he looks forward to seeing Wrecking Harbour reach its full potential and grow into a tourism destination worthy of the beautiful area in which it is located.

Matt is a family man, cares deeply for the environment and local history, and is happiest when he has a guitar in his hands. If you see him out around, don’t hesitate to say hello and have a chat about all things tourism and community.

🍂 The crisp fall air is starting to set in. Perfect timing. We have our balcony rails installed, and now we can safely sit on the decks with a good book, a hot cup of coffee, and the rhythmic sound of the ocean. ☕️📚🌊

With bulk clean-up week ongoing, you may have found items you no longer need, such as old buoys, anchors, traps, fishing lines, tea cups, or oil lamps. If you have anything that reflects the area's rich history and might interest tourists, please reach out. Lumsden has a deep-rooted history of family lines working here, and we want to showcase that to our guests. ⚓️🌊

... a moment for the accessible balcony 😭😍 so happy with how this is turning out. This is the biggest balcony out of all four of the houses. The accessible door opens up from the main bedroom. We put an arch thru the wing wall, which will allow you to explore the whole deck. Clear panes will go up so your view will not be impeded.

POV: You just had the best beach day of your life. You are walking up to your beach house rental where you get to unwind and relax in total comfort and tranquility.

We are making some good progress. Exterior is nearly done. We are very excited to get to the finish work.

It's going to be a 🔥 hot 🔥 few days - perfect weather for walking barefoot thru the cool atlantic waters. If you head to the beach today, dont forget to look up at the hill and check out our progress. The wood cladding is done on the ocean side wing walls. We couldn't be happier with the look so far.

We have been asked a few times "why paint them all white?" Our reason is simple, its a nod to tradition. There was a time when the only paint you would see in outport Newfoundland was white (and later, red). Many did not have access to the various colors we have to choose from today. Heritage NL has shared some lovely information on the history of paint color in Newfoundland and Labrador. Have a read.
