🚨 FUNDRAISER PLEASE SHARE🚨 Dumping Day marks the first day of the lobster fishing season on the East Coast, when boats go out to ‘dump’ their traps.

All profits from the sale of this t-shirt during the month of October will go to support the Tancook Island Emercgency Response Association. Emergency responders are vital workers in our community, espeically when you live on an island that's accessible only by boat!

The people of Tancook have been such BIG supporters of Nor'easter, I've been looking for a heartfelt way to say thank you.

We've also been asked multiple times by the lobster industry why we haven't created a "lobster" t-shirt?! Since lobster fishing makes a big portion of the island economy, this felt like the perfect mashup!

Fundraiser tees will begin shipping on Oct 11.

Join MODL Recreation staff for an afternoon of adventure on the Big Tancook Island! 🗾

We will meet at the community centre for a picnic lunch before setting off to find geocaches around the island! ☀🕶🥪

Be sure to bring a lunch, water bottle, sneakers, and appropriate hiking clothes for the weather. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Registration is required for all family members attending. Donations for PRO Kids welcomed.

In the children's picture book, Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, Alice is a young woman who travels the world. When she gets older, she lives in a cottage by the sea and spends her days scattering lupin seeds to make the world a more beautiful place.

We love that our little home by the sea is surrounded by lupins for our guests to enjoy!

Tancook Island is now a base for the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station. Following is a message from the directors of the station - Nigel and Anna Hussey. The Tancook Islands Marine Field Station is associated with the University of Windsor.

Hi everyone,

We’re very excited to announce (as many of you know) that we are finally launching the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station. It will take time to get the station to full operations, but we are starting research this summer to derive data on white sharks and their ecosystem in Atlantic Canada. These data will be hugely important moving forward to finalize a management plan for the white shark as required under the Species At Risk Act (SARA). The mission of the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station is to provide a unique ‘living lab’ space for students to undertake cutting edge research on marine species in Nova Scotia, in a sustainable environment that is closely intertwined with the fabulous communities of the Tancook Islands. So, watch out for our soon to be launched website, social media posts and t-shirts/hoodies (proceedings will all go to supporting the station). For now, this is the first revealing of the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station logo with artwork by Loretta Gould – we hope you like it……..and everyone is always welcome to call in at the station.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone for making us feel so welcome on the islands and for the immense support in making the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station a reality.....the journey begins!

Love the Wishing Stones Studio & Gallery

Well, this week is looking pretty wet and the weekend is looking a bit scary.
Hurricane Fiona is looming and I think it’s time to prepare for the wallop.

I will be in the gallery over the next couple days rolling up rugs and lifting furniture (in anticipation of flooding) and then Wishing Stones will be closed for the rest of the week while I batten down the hatches at home.

If we weather this storm well, the gallery will re-open for the last week of the season when the wind and waves subside 😊
