Our Captain Walter Flower, his family and crew have worked on numerous film projects over the last three decades, but none so focused on them as in today’s episode of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.

Walter, his brother Bill, daughter Allie and niece Emily not only provided marine support and camera boats for the production crew but are the family cast and fishing crew leading the latest shark expedition on the wildly popular TV show!

This latest episode, ‘Great White North’ was filmed entirely in Nova Scotia (near Cross Island) and airs today on Discovery. Check your local listings. It’s going to be a real blast!!

We’ve had some amazing whale sightings this week, including this encounter with a pod of 12, yes 12, fin whales! Fin whales are the second largest whale species in the world, can be as long as 85 ft. and eat as much as 2 tons of food a day! Wow!

The first Right Whale recorded in Canadian waters this spring is found entangled in fishing gear! Not a good way to start the season for this endangered species!

Members of the federal Marine Mammal Response Program will try to remove the gear if the weather and sea conditions allow.

Ghost gear or abandoned or lost fishing gear, continues to be a major threat to the survival of many marine species - leatherback turtles, seabirds and whales in particular! It’s a major issue for endangered right whales!

In the summer of 2019, Walter and crew were able to help an entangled humpback while on a whale watching tour. It was an exciting time for both passengers and crew when we were able to finally cut the whale free of the heavy gear. 🙂👍

Entanglement is believed to be the cause of death of a young right whale found on Martha’s Vineyard last week. Entanglement in fishing gear and ship strikes continue to be the greatest threats to whale survival. And yet another sad statistic for a critically endangered species.

The new year is off to a good start for endangered North Atlantic Right Whales. Several whale calves have been spotted off the coast of Florida. Yay! 👍

Aerial survey teams have spotted more than half a dozen right whale calves off the coast of Florida and Georgia during the calving season. The whales are known to travel from feeding areas off of Canada and New England to give birth off the coast of the Southeast during the fall and winter.

Wishing all of our friends and customers a happy and prosperous new year! 👍

See Nova Scotia, From The Sea

We offer an amazing, three-hour boating adventure of southern Nova Scotia. See historic Lunenburg Harbour, and depending on the route, the amazing sea caves of the Ovens Natural Park, the puffins of Pearl Island and the harbour seals and the dozens of seabirds the invade Chockle Cap Island. Watch the waves crash along the shore as our boat maneuvers the narrow channel between the islands of the Eastern Points and follow some of the most picturesque and rugged coastline in Eastern Canada.

And yes, there are whales, and other marine life. Humpbacks, minke and fin whales are the most common, but we don’t always see them; and now that the distance between our boat and these amazing creatures is restricted by law we don’t see them as often as we would like. Conservation is always our first priority.

There are dolphins, sunfish, numerous species of seabirds and on an occasion, a leatherback turtle will pass by. And in the summer of 2018 we were luck enough to see the tagging of a great white shark on one of our tours. It was an amazing experience. The coastline here is a hotbed for great white shark research and conservation.

Come, sail with us, one of the oldest adventure tour companies in Nova Scotia. Book online, call or visit our booth on the Lunenburg waterfront.
