We are pleased to announce that Calma Sailing is part of Sail Canada’s “Sailing for All” initiative.

This initiative was created to support grassroots programs in delivering sailing experiences to underserved and underrepresented communities and groups, at low or no cost to the participants. The program aims to establish and build partnerships at the local level between sailing schools and their local community through partnerships and opportunities to engage with new groups. The initiative was launched in December 2023 thanks to funding from the Sport Canada Community Sport for All Initiative and the Canadian Olympic Committee Return to Sport program.

Sail Canada is a leading international sailing nation, proud of its world class athletes, lifelong participants and inclusive culture. We have just returned from a 5-day course opening the 2023 season. Snowy mountains in the sun, waterfalls flowing straight into the ocean and a dinner of hand-picked mussels - great to be back in Desolation Sound! Thank you Gillian, Daniel and Murray - it was a great start. And congratulations to the new skipper - wishing you good winds on your next sailing adventure!

Find out what we have in common with tadpoles, what is a MALDI-TOF, and maybe learn something about sailing.

Dominik Domanski, also known as Dr. Dom Dom amongst his friends, received his PhD at UVic in biochemistry, aiming to show why frogs and tadpoles could be sentinel species. He then moved onto being an adjunct professor, and while weighing the smallest of biomolecules using mass spectrometers he was trying to solve health related issues – mostly for smokers. He has now returned to BC due to his long-time love for sailing, and with his wife and two kids, and as a Sail Canada instructor and owner of Calma Sailing, he is trying to re-invent his life in Desolation Sound as a sailor.
