When I was creating the "Africa Hub" that is on my website I wanted it to be clear that there are many ways to experience an African adventure.

What would I book if I were going to cruise out of Vancouver in the next month and a half ... I'll tell you exactly what I'd book and then you let me know if this is something interesting to you or not.

I'd be hopping on the Celebrity Edge on September 20th and cruising to Hawaii. This is a cruise itinerary only for people who LOVE the experience of a ship because it has 5 "at sea" days. (My cabin selection is based on this so stay tuned for that). Once in Hawaii you get an OVERNIGHT port stop in Hilo (so you can really explore without a time to get back on board hanging over your head), then over to Kona for another overnight stop, then you get to cruise the Napali Coast, and end in Honolulu. (Maybe you'd add on a stay on Oahu. I think I'd make my way to Turtle Bay resort or to one of the resorts in Ko Olina for that part 'cause I'm not in to Waikiki)

Next comes the selection of the cabin category.

I'd choose a Aqua Class stateroom because that includes - "complimentary fitness classes, unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, complimentary dining at Blu restaurant, and a personal spa concierge."

So price - that's what you're wondering now right?

Well I'm not much of a drinker so I might consider booking a bare bones package without the drinks, wifi, specialty dining, gratuities, and just add the things I need afterward (saving room in the budget for wifi, gratuities, bottled water and insurance). I could do that for about $177 CAD per person, per day (based on double occupancy).

The complimentary speciality dining for 2 and On Board Credit would just be a nice bonus at this point.

Depending on when I would want to fly home (direct) - I could get flights for about $400 CAD per person back to YVR.

It looks like Jetlines (a Canadian airline around for a short time) is going to be closing.

I didn't book any clients with this company because I wasn't sure they'd make it (it's a tough industry in Canada and the new guys rarely make it).

I hear that one of the high pressure sales tactics that timeshare sales people use at all-inclusive resorts is to say that you if you use a travel agent to book your trip - the travel agent get's 60% of that amount and if you buy in to the timeshare your costs will be 60% less because of this.

I'd like to go on record to say this is categorically untrue.

Have you attended a timehare sales appointment (they will never call it that and you may not know what it is you're in for when you go to the "free" breakfast, or talk to the "VIP concierge" or whatever tactic is used.)?

What have you been told at such an appointment that turned out to be true or not?

The incredible beauty of this place created such a peaceful ambiance for yoga and a sound bath. They call it the Temple, and I could feel the reason for the name.

When you're on vacation, do you join in the activities offered? Or do you tend to relax on your own for the most part?

On this trip I joined everything I could and ended up doing balance yoga (on the water), a mayan moon ceremony, an evening of reiki, crystals and music, yoga, a sound bath, and candle making. All in less than 24 hours!

Whale sharks are the biggest fish in the sea, up to 41 ft long and 47,000 pounds! These gentle giants visit Cancun from June to September, offering an extraordinary snorkeling experience.

There are two prime spots to find these creatures: Isla Mujeres and Holbox. Today, I'm focused on Isla Mujeres, known for its easy access, better visibility, and warmer waters.

Local fishermen from Isla Mujeres hold exclusive licenses to run these tours. You can depart either from Isla Mujeres or the mainland near Playa Mujeres. The adventure starts early with a 2-hour boat ride into the ocean to find the whale sharks. Once spotted, only 2 guests and a guide are allowed in the water at a time for an intimate encounter.

Expect multiple turns swimming alongside these gentle giants. Sometimes you might see just one shark, other times hundreds, making it a magical experience.

Life jackets are mandatory, but being a strong swimmer is recommended as you'll be swimming alongside moving animals. Witnessing them feed on plankton and krill at the surface is a unique thrill.

After swimming, most tours head to the shallow waters around Isla Mujeres for a fresh lunch while wading in the ocean.

For families, the tour's age limit varies by operator, but it's generally recommended for children aged 4+ who are strong swimmers. Tours can be booked as a group or privately, usually starting around $200 USD per person, including transportation.

Tip: The boat ride can be rough. Avoid alcohol the night before and take anti-nausea medication the night before and morning of the tour. If you get seasick on big cruise ships, this tour might not be for you. It's a long, intense day in the sun but incredibly rewarding.

Imagining what it would be like to have an incredible life changing experience, and come away with pictures that are better than ... this type of selfie pic I tend to take.

AND to not have to take your attention away from that experience you're having to make sure you're documenting it well.

What if you could have a professional book delivered to you after your adventure with the story of your experience told in words and pictures - so you'll never ever forget the details and can use it to help tell the story for others (it's so hard to get those emotions across to people who haven't taken the same trip)

Tomorrow morning I will be briefly boarding Holland America's Koningsdam while it's in port to tour all parts of the ship, and have a meal.

This ship has a few spots available on the 7 night roundtrip itineraries from Vancouver to Alaska this summer (with the last sailing departing on September 28th).

Pricing starts at CA$701 per person (plus $353 taxes and fees) for an inside cabin.

Another funny sign of the quality of your resort ... they fall all over themselves to get you a stand or rack or something if you dare set your purse/bag on the ground at a bar or restaurant. (I have zero feelings about my stuff being on the reasonably clean ground, but it's absolutely a no go at the fancy resorts)

I'm noticing such a huge difference between Conrad Tulum and Waldorf Asotria Cancun.
They immediately feel different (I call this the vibe). Also the layout is completely different. The beach is different. Location etc, all very different.

That's why, when you work with me, i have you complete a questionnaire asking about all of these things (and more) and what YOU want, and what's important to you.

What I like, what your sister likes, what your neighbor likes, what you like and what a online search engine serves up to you when you search - different.

Do you know? Are you more of a Conrad Tulum person, or an Astoria Waldorf Cancun person?

Tip - in my experience, it's usually less expensive to upgrade to premium/business at check in time than to book that fare in the first place.
So if you would be open to spending a bit more for more room and a few perks, but are OK with it if an upgrade isn't available - check the cost to upgrade at when you're checking in online 24 hours before the flight.
For example - I could have (but didnt) upgrade from economy to premium economy with Westjet for $199 for my flight from YYC - CUN.

This type of thing has been happening in tourism destinations around the world for a number of years.
If signed (which is expected apparently), the bill would see many short term rentals phased out in Hawaii started January 1.

Many of my clients really like the idea of staying in condo or villa style accommodations - so what happens to you going forward? I would recommend considering staying in professionally managed, properly zoned, and legal - condos/villas. There are lots in Hawaii (and elsewhere) to choose from!

The ban would start July 1, 2024.

Mmmbop came out 26 years ago. If you remember that time fondly and want to feel hip, young, even "bussin" then you might want a stay at @impressionislamujeres in your future. I'm checking out the food, the rooms (this is a Signature Oceanfront King) and the activities (signed up for Balance on the water, and a New Moon Ceremony, after that I think a Reiki session is calling my name. I'm noticing the other guests seem to be as young as about 25 and up to about 60 or so. A mix of couples (mainly) plus friends groups. I'll be interested to see the types of people who join all the activities as I intend to. Currently I'm working from that tub on the patio. Are you considering taking a cruise sometime between now and 2026? Perhaps I can help you sort through all of the many options out there in the marketplace. When you're considering which cruise line to sail with - have you thought of Princess Cruises? (I am sailing with them to Alaska in May and looking forward to bringing back all kinds of information for you!) If yes, you might be interested to know that Princess Cruises has a current promotion on for a discount on the fare and free fare for the 3rd and 4th people (in the same stateroom - so I'd recommend bringing your kids, or at least people you're happy to be in very close spaces with).
