We made the decision to develop an off-grid home 20 years ago, leveraging solar and wind power for lighting and employing compost living methods to minimize waste. Our serene lake, surrounded by a natural, uninterrupted shoreline, was the perfect location. Although it was a relatively new idea then and finding the right partners to educate us was a challenge, the reward has been a fulfilling lifestyle and the opportunity to learn and grow. For us, every day is Earth Day.

100 acre wood and the Cabin

We had an idea. What if we could create a place in South Algonquin that was completely sustainable. Where our water is tapped from an underground spring and our power was harnessed from the wind and sun. A gentle place where our sons could swim and roam in nature. We searched and found this lovely private land and began our journey to create our cabin in a 100 acre wood. The cabin consists of a century log addition with logs aged over 100 years old. The lake is stocked with fish and swimming is delightful. Life is good off grid!
