Nana’s Porch
We often get asked why it’s called Nana’s Porch. The answer is simple: because she would have loved it and declared it hers.
Nana passed away the year before our family took possession of the property. As renters, we always said how much Nana would have loved to sit and watch the sunset here after a day on the waters. She would have had the Jays game on her portable radio, been in her pyjamas, watching for birds, and making some quick-witted joke to get your attention. She was as sharp as she was tanned, always basking in the sun. Her bright lipstick matched the season, with summer always being bright pink, and her nail polish matched both her nails and toes. Her earrings were just as colorful. Though there’s no smoking on the porch, Nana would have loved to have one of her long American ci******es to go with her Diet Coke.
When we took over the cottage, a close family member sent us this redone picture of her. It was perfect, and no sooner did Nana’s Porch come to life.
We miss Nana and know how proud she would be. She’d likely be nodding her head with the point of a finger, affirming that this porch was a good idea—especially because it’s all in her favorite color, blue.
We did that for you, Nana. 🩵
