If you have been around my IG/Facebook or chatted with me in person, you know I'm not a big fan of "Basic Economy" fares. I'm all about "value vs cost" and here is one of the reasons why.

WestJet just came out with a new "UltraBasic Fare". Here’s the thing about Basic Economy Flights you get what you pay for (or more honestly, you don't get what you paid for).

Did you know that when you choose a new WestJet Ultra Basic Economy Fare that:

* Carry-on bags: Carry-on bags are not permitted unless you are travelling on a transatlantic or transpacific flight, or if you purchase Extended Comfort for all flights in a single direction, including connections.

Personal items that fit under the seat in front are allowed and there is the option to check a bag in advance for an additional fee.

If you arrive at the gate with a carry-on bag when not permitted, it will be checked with both a checked bag and a service fee applied.

* Pre-assigned seats: You will be automatically assigned seats at the back of the aircraft, including middle seats, which may not be together if you are travelling with others. You have the option to choose your seats for an additional fee.

* Boarding: You will be the last to board.

* Not eligible for changes: Changes, cancellations, or refunds are not permitted with this fare.

* WestJet Rewards: Opting for this fare means you’ll miss out on earning WestJet dollars and tier qualifying spend.

Now I don't know about you, but is all that worth it? I prefer to purchase a higher fare knowing that I have flexibility and additional perks included.

Other airlines' Basic Economy may differ, but basically the fare is just that - basic. If you plan to go with a basic fare I HIGHLY recommend having full cancellation coverage on the fare so you don't lose your money completely!

Love when clients come home happy!!

You know that mad dash in the morning to the resort pool to pick out the best lounger?

You pick a lounger, and you think it’s the one, but nobody told you that it’s right beside the pool DJ or the water polo, where it’s loud, busy, and overcrowded, so you’re second-guessing your pick all day.

With service, you never have to play the chair-game again.

Your will not only ask you the night before where you'd like to sit the next day, they will also reserve your loungers, by the pool or beach (your preference) and then sprinkle you with surprises all day long, like snacks, special cocktails and a cooler full of soft drinks, water and beer if preferred. You technically never have to leave your lounger all day unless you need to cool down in the ocean or pool. And when you get back to your room after a long day of relaxing... you may just find a romantic bubble bath awaiting you with chilled sparkling wine beside.

It's and on this gloomy and cold winter day let's head for a touch of Springtime - The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.

Starting this February, EPCOT will be full of beautiful topiaries of your favourite Disney characters (70 to be exact), along with Garden Rock concerts (including Garden Rocks concert dining packages), delicious delights for Foodies and interactive activities and garden exhibits to inspire and entertain everyone in the family.

To get 2024 started, let's take a look at the current offers available for Canadian Residents! You may be dreaming of a Walt Disney World, Disneyland or Disney Cruise Vacation and as your travel agent, I am always ready with the latest promos for your future Disney plans.

Here's what's going on to help us begin planning your 2024 Spring or Summer vacation:

What a busy year in travel 2023 has been! I am so looking forward to some down time, away from the computer to enjoy the Christmas Holidays and spending time with friends and family over great food and wine.

Before I sign off at the end of this week though, I’m seeing clients off on their Christmas vacations. One family is headed to see my favourite Mouse in Disney World, while others are headed to the warm waters of the Caribbean on cruises.

I’ll be in the office until Thursday afternoon (Dec 21) if anyone needs anything travel-related, but I'm not starting new quotes now until I return back to my office on January 2. I'll just be available for those in destination or those travelling the first two weeks of January, or those I'm already working with on their vacation quotes.

Here's a little something for "Thursday Travel Tips" that was just shared from a client who was given this tip from the airline agent after her luggage was lost during and since her recent trip to Cuba:

🧳 Tip: Place a copy of your travel itinerary on top of your contents inside your bag. This way they will know where you are when your flight schedules are for your trip.

And here's another couple tips of my own:
🧳 Tip: Always be sure to check the destination is correct on your luggage tags before you drop your bags onto the belt at the airport, especially if you have connecting flights.

🧳 Tip: Purchase an AirTag or Tile tracker to place inside your checked bag. I have these and they are great to know where your bags are located, although sometimes it takes a bit of time for them to update.

Back to work today after an amazing week with the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Board!
🇦🇬
Have you ever wondered what we agents do on these FAM trips (Familiarization trips)? Here is a quick run down of what we did last week:
🇦🇬
1. For 4 straight days we toured 11 different resorts around the island from the 2.5 star Jolly Beach Resort to the 5-star Resorts like Hammock Cove and Blue Waters Resorts and others in-between.
🇦🇬
2. We experienced sunset at Shirley Heights the evening we arrived and enjoyed the steel drum band and live music as we ate the BBQ along with locals and other tourists.
🇦🇬
3. We took a Pink Panther tour to famous sights like Devil's Bridge, Betty's Hope Historic Sugar Plantation and Nelson's Dockyard (all in the extreme heatwave Antigua was experiencing last week).
🇦🇬
4. We watched the sun set as we enjoyed the Mystic Catamaran cruise as it journeyed along the west coast of the island roundtrip from Dickenson's Bay to Darkwood Beach.
🇦🇬
5. We toured Heritage Quay (cruise port area) and the town of St. John's on an Eat n Lime Food Tour where we all (or at least mostly all... since I'm a picky eater), sampled some local dishes and we learned to make our own rum punch.
🇦🇬
A huge thank you to our hosts at St. James Club Resort and Pineapple Beach Club Resort, the hosts at the resorts we visited and our amazing Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Board team both here in Canada and in destination.

Do you have a Jamaica vacation in your travel future? If you do I have some news for you today!

Starting today, Sept 1, Jamaica has a new digital entry process for guests coming to Jamaica to submit online to replace the old paper immigration forms.
🇯🇲
The form can be completed after booking flights up to one year before departure or on arrival in Jamaica at the airport through a mobile kiosk or on cellphones, though it's recommended it be completed closer to departure.

I am going to try it in the next week or so for my upcoming FAM trip to Couples Resorts in Jamaica at the end of September so I can give you tips if you need them when you fill out your online form.

Aww the Silent Disco!! One of my favourite nights on any @celebritycruises cruise! With 3 different channels of music (usually an “oldies”, salsa and current music channel) and everyone grooving to their own channel playing in their ears (usually singing at the top of their lungs) the real fun is for those without headphones (as you can hear in this reel!). 🎧Have you enjoyed a silent disco party onboard? I still remember my first cruise back in 2011. The excitement walking up the gangway and crossing from land into ship. Even after this, my 20th cruise, I still feel that thrill. 🚢This trip was even more exciting as I was able to bring along my Sister @humbycarolyn and introduce her to the fabulous world of cruising. I like to think it is #summercampforadults!🚢CJ was amazed at the amount of storage space within our little #homeawayfromhome🏡 as there was enough room (plus more) to unpack (& I pack ALOT). There is also great under bed storage to put away our luggage and we had more than enough hangers so everything had a place. 🚢Some extras I like to pack for the cabin when I cruise are magnetic hooks that give extra wall storage for purses, knapsacks and extra quick grab clothes and I also bring wall clip magnets to clip on our excursion tickets and daily newspapers. 🚢Tell me… what little extras do you bring for your cruise cabin? Now that I’m back home, I am going to miss the delicious food onboard #celebritysolstice. Our main dining staff of Juanito, Sandy and Lino were fantastic and the food recommendations were always spot on! Food was delicious and never disappointing and that’s without even specialty dining packages, although those are amazing too, particularly Petite Chef. 🍝If I had to pick a favourite meal onboard I don’t think I could. BREAKING NEWS! Today is the day we've been waiting for!! 🇨🇦 This morning the Canadian gov't announced that it is FINALLY dropping the last remaining border and quarantine restrictions, including the mask mandate on planes and trains!! This is some big news!! Here are the details - starting October 1st… 🇨🇦 • Foreign nationals coming to Canada will no longer need to be vaccinated to enter the country • Gone are the mandatory "random" Covid 19 tests (don't get me started on those!) • Unvaccinated Canadians will no longer have to isolate when they return home to Canada • Travellers won't have to monitor or report if they develop Covid 19 symptoms on arrival • ArriveCan app is now optional and submitting public health information is no longer required, but optional • It is no longer mandatory to wear a face mask while travelling on planes or trains. 🇨🇦 Note that cruisers out of Canada will still have to adhere to the US rules for embarkation/disembarkation. 🇨🇦 It feels like Christmas and I know some of my past clients have been waiting on this day.
