Novi Sad is a vibrant city in northern Serbia, situated on the banks of the Danube River. It’s known for its rich cultural scene, historical architecture, and beautiful landscapes.

The city is home to the iconic Petrovaradin Fortress, which offers stunning views of the city, as well as secret tunnels that are ripe for exploration. Novi Sad is also the home of HK Vojvodina, a professional hockey team in the Serbian League who play their home games on one of the coolest rinks you’ll ever see. The Centar Skenderija ice rink, opened in 1982 and located within the Skenderija complex in Sarajevo, has a rich history tied to the city’s sporting and cultural life.

During the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, the rink played a crucial role as one of the key venues, showcasing various ice sports (including hockey) and bringing international attention to the city.

After the Bosnian War in the 1990s, the facility suffered damage but was later renovated and reopened, continuing its legacy as a gathering place for ice sports enthusiasts. Today, it hosts local ice hockey teams, figure skating events, and recreational skating sessions, remaining a beloved spot for the community and visitors alike. Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a city rich in history and cultural diversity. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, it’s known for its unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, evident in its architecture, cuisine, and traditions.

And just like that, the 2024 edition of our Winter Classic tour has come to and end. The trip took us through Sarajevo, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, and concluded with 2 nights in beautiful Budapest. From exploring the hidden depths beneath an old fortress, scooter rides through amazing cities, and an unforgettable hockey tournament on an outdoor rink, the memories and amazing experiences kept on coming. While it’s sad to be traveling home, the new friends and memories made will last forever. Until next time! 🇧🇦🇷🇸🇭🇺🏒🍻

Yesterday we were lucky enough to tour the underground tunnel system at Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad. Our tour guides Dragan and Leon were incredible, providing us with both entertainment and information in abundance. Definitely a highlight of the trip so far.
