Today is National Indigenous Languages Day- something we are committed to as we continue with our expansion and updates to museum exhibits is the inclusion of the languages of the three Nations represented at Ska-Nah-Doht: Oneida Nation of the Thames, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, and Munsee-Delaware Nation. Be that a full inclusion as in the Heritage Log Cabin Signs, or key words as in our new animal and tree exhibits.
Yawʌ’ko (Oneida), miigwech (Anishinaabemowin), anushiik (Munsee), or thank you to all the language speakers who are helping us to make this possible.

River otters can measure up to 1.4 meters in length and weigh up to 14 kilograms. They have water-repellent fur, webbed feet and long, strong tails that help them swim. While river is part of their name, they also live in lakes and large creeks.
River otters are often seen as playful. Playing helps to strengthen social bonds and allows young otters to practice their hunting skills.
Otter is also one of the animals that features in the Haudenosaunee creation story about Sky Woman (as well as other creation stories).
