The aerial perspective of Lake Kootenay, Canada, unveils a captivating underwater geoglyph intricately woven into its surroundings. The existence of this enigmatic pattern evokes a sense of wonder, prompting questions about its origin and the implications of its presence. The duration of its submersion in the lake and the potential symbolism or function of this geoglyph raise intriguing inquiries. This remarkable find beckons us to delve into the hidden mysteries concealed beneath the waters, inviting a deeper examination of our aquatic landscapes.

What an absolutely lovely post by Design today! We were doing our Ambassador walkabout this afternoon when a family ran up to us asking for help. The little boy was holding a small Irish Design bag with a little bird inside with, possibly, a hurt wing. They were so concerned and, together, we agreed that calling the Humane Society would be best. The NSPCA was there very quickly and they took charge of the little bird. This wonderful, caring family was from Singapore, just visiting for the day. We were so very touched by their kindness, and I hope their experience told them something positive about our Town too.

Did you know that Niagara-on-the-Lake is home to some of the most beautiful historic homes in Canada? We are so fortunate to have a wonderful Museum that preserves this history, explores it and educates us, both with special exhibits and with lectures, walking tours and neighbourhood adventures led by experts. One of this year's temporary exhibitions is called "THE PRETTIEST TOWN:
Beyond the Bricks & Mortar" and it explores the “stories” of some of our Town’s heritage homes and why it is important to preserve them for future generations. The exhibit runs from May 17, 2024 to April 6, 2025. Also, don't forget to check out their Events listings and calendar!

NOTL AMBASSADORS RETURN FOR THE 2024 SEASON

Tourism NOTL is pleased to announce the return of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Ambassadors for the 2024 season. This is a unique program, designed by volunteers and tourism stakeholders, to welcome visitors to our Town and enhance their overall experience.
This year, the program has expanded from 50 to almost 80 volunteers. The Ambassadors are proud to include over 30 new members, all of whom have completed a comprehensive orientation, and are ready to start working! This has allowed an expansion of service on Queen Street to 22 weeks throughout the peak visitor season. Ambassadors in their blue vests will now be on-site on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday Mondays from May 17th, Victoria Day weekend through to Thanksgiving, October 14th. So far in 2024, this dedicated group of volunteers has also supported the Icewine festival, as well as the Eclipse weekend.
Ambassadors stroll the streets of Old Town and staff a “pop-up” kiosk by the CourtHouse on Queen Street. These trained volunteers connect with visitors, answer questions, and provide current information on what’s happening every day in NOTL. In 2023, Ambassadors engaged with over 9200 people from across Canada, USA, and over 60 countries. Andrew Niven, Interim President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism NOTL, summed it up: “This amazing group of volunteers have been making a huge impact on how our Visitors experience Niagara-on-the-Lake. As a local resident, I love their energy, passion and enthusiasm for our town and all it has to offer!”
Laurie Harley, Co-Lead of the Program, pointed out the “all-volunteer” program wouldn’t be possible without the support of Tourism NOTL, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and a dedicated group of tourism partners. “They are our Champions. They host site visits, provide in-kind support, keep us informed and most importantly encourage us to keep sharing the unique NOTL story and create unforgettable memories for our visitors. “

Did you know about this very special event coming up?

On Friday, May 24th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the Friends of Fort George and Parks Canada are hosting a guided tour at the Fort Mississauga National Historic Site. This should be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the rich history of our town, including the tale of the first Great Lakes lighthouse and the critical roles played by local figures during significant periods in our history.

The event will also offer a peek inside the old stone tower, which is usually closed to the public, and there will be stories shared about the brave soldiers who trained at Camp Niagara. Plus, the ticket includes a tour of the tower, a free glass of wine, and a commemorative wine glass to take home!

Tickets are $50 for adults and $20 for children, and purchasing one not only gets you a great evening out but also helps support ongoing restoration projects at Fort Mississauga and the Friends of Fort George programs. Tickets can be purchased here: https://friendsoffortgeorge.square.site/special-event-tickets

Pass the word to friends and family. Let's support a great cause and delve into our local history together!

They range from an hour to several hours, some with just a view of the eclipse and some with commentary. Keep in mind you can scroll through parts if you’d like.

NASA
Go to their eclipse page, which is here, and click on “watch live” link, also available on YouTube here. It comes in at over three hours.

TIMEANDDATE
Go to their eclipse page, which is here, and just click on their livestream, at over fours hours, which has been recorded, and is also available on YouTube here.

Go to their eclipse page, which is here, and it has a link to its two-hour-plus YouTube coverage here (which does have more commentary than actual eclipse viewing, but you can scroll to any part you like). There’s a real good view from Queen’s University starting just after the 90-minute mark.

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION
Go to their eclipse page, which is here, and click on their hour-long link, which is also available on YouTube here. Lots of commentary but great view of the eclipse and great view of stars during totality.

SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN
Go to their eclipse page, which is here, and click on their 90-minute link, which is also available on YouTube here.
