is back! 🫧 Our 4-year-old daughter Tessa always has the best time hunting for uniquely shaped ice bubbles and bringing them to life with her imagination. A couple days ago, she found Rudolph! Just in time for Christmas 🦌🎄 She'd love to hear what you think!

Each year, as we start sharing posts about the ice bubbles, we notice an influx of comments and questions about Abraham Lake on social media. A common one is the claim that there is no ice to be found at the lake. We see many people making the long drive to Abraham Lake, only to be disappointed when they find open water instead. So, why does this happen? 🧊

The key is that Abraham Lake spans over 32 kilometers in length, and the southern section, which is much shallower and narrower, freezes 6-8 weeks earlier than the rest of the lake. This early season ice can show some of the clearest and most beautiful formations we have all winter. Ice conditions change rapidly, especially in the early season. This is why we are posting regular ice reports on our website—to help inform and guide your planning, ensuring a better experience when you visit. ⚠️ As always, remember to follow the Canadian Red Cross guidelines for ice thickness safety before venturing out onto the ice: 15 cm for walking or skating alone, and 20 cm if you are in a group. If you are unsure, do not know how to check ice thickness, or simply want your best chance at seeing the bubbles, we strongly recommend booking a tour! ❄️

The ice here was well over 20 cm thick, creating a breathtaking optical illusion that resembles icebergs floating on water. In reality, these are layers of ice encased within more ice. This phenomenon occurs because the lake freezes in stages, with sections breaking apart and refreezing multiple times before eventually solidifying completely. ❄️

Exciting news: We're starting an Adventure Tourism Company! ⛰️

After an amazing couple years as Nordegg Escape, we’re thrilled to announce a new chapter for our family! We’re becoming – a name that better reflects the adventure, beauty, and spirit of the experiences we offer.

We started with a couple guidebooks and an Airbnb, but as passionate locals who’ve called this area home and worked in the outdoor industry for most of our adult lives, it only made sense to expand into the adventure tourism world. Our love for the Rockies goes beyond accommodations, and we will now be offering incredible experiences like ice bubble tours, heli-hiking, e-bike tours, side-by-side adventures and more!

We will still be posting similar content in addition to exciting tours, packages, conditions of the area, and behind the scenes fun! We can’t wait to share this new chapter with you! 🤗
