Alright, I've been "bragging" about one of my clients, Terre Boréale, for quite some time now. I've been telling my friends, business colleagues, and, of course, travel writers about them and how impressive being a B-Corporation (B Corp) is. To my surprise, I can tell that many people don't know what I'm talking about.
Hey, it's okay, it's never too late to learn. It’s important for me to share this information, if you don’t know it already.
First, did you know there are only two, 100% Canadian receptive tour operators in the entire nation that are B Corp certified? It's mind-boggling, if you ask me. Hopefully, there will be more... there should be more in the entire tourism sector globally.
Companies that are certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an equitable, inclusive and regenerative economy. To keep it very short -they are fully committed to put people and the planet before profit. How great is this?!
Becoming a B-Corp isn't a small feat, nor is maintaining the certification and going through the rigorous assessment and verification process every three year to recertify. By the way, bravo Terre Boreale for getting recertified!
The B-Corp certification is most valuable as it builds trust with consumers, communities, and suppliers as well as retain purpose-driven employees and attract new talents.
I've heard people say it's a little costly to become and maintain a B-Corp certification, it's debatable; it isn't for small businesses, you just need to fully commit to it and it will pay back!
In any case, it's the best stamp of approval you can get nowadays, across all business sectors!
Hey, writer friends, I have unique stories for you;)
Reach out if you want to know more.
As stated on the B-Corporation website: B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In order to achieve certification, a company must:
1) Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.
2) Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.
3) Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
