I was recently in Lucern, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and while walking around the city on a tour we discovered the stunning iconic Chapel Bridge. (Kapellbrücke)

The Kapellbrücke, or Chapel Bridge, is a historic covered wooden footbridge that crosses the Reuss River.

Named after the nearby St. Peter’s Chapel, this bridge is notable for its unique collection of interior paintings from the 17th century.

Unfortunately many of these artworks and a significant portion of the bridge were destroyed by a fire in 1993.

The bridge has since been meticulously restored and holds the distinction of being the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe and the world’s oldest surviving truss bridge.

It truly is an iconic symbol of Lucerne and a major tourist attraction in Switzerland.

Arrived to home of the !

The Matterhorn gets its name from the German words Matte (“meadow”) and Horn (“horn”), it is also referred to as “the peak of the meadows”.

The Matterhorn, is one of the most iconic mountains in the Alps and stands at 14,692 feet (4,478 meters) and spans the border between Switzerland and Italy, located about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Zermatt, Switzerland.

Fun fact: Walt Disney along with his family visited the Swiss village of Zermatt quite often. He was so captivated by the Matterhorn and the surrounding scenery he constructed his own the famous Matterhorn bobsled ride at Disneyland, California and it continues to be a favourite amongst park guests.

Welo Tuk Tuk ride from Geneva to the countryside to Chateau du Crest where we toured a private art gallery and winery we also had the pleasure of a non-formal wine tasting where we savoured the wines of the Swiss region.

Swiss fact: less than 2% of Swiss wines are exported, it is mainly consumed domestically.

Swiss wine does come with a price tag because of the high altitudes at which grapes are grown, the long hours it takes to tend to the vines and the high demand. Apparently Swiss like their wine.

My palate enjoyed the tastes of Chasselas and White Merlot. When in Switzerland take a Tuk Tuk to wine country you won’t be disappointed.

Fascinating story of the death of Empress Elizabeth, Sisi of Austria.

The empress’s death in 1898 was as remarkable as her life. Sisi initially failed to notice her injury. While walking along the shores of Lake Geneva, an assassin drove a sharpened file into her heart. Believing the man had only knocked her down, Elisabeth composed herself, apologized to bystanders, and quickly continued with her chambermaid to the ship she was about to board. It was only after she was on board that the empress collapsed.

She was moved off the ship back to the Beau-Rivage Hotel and later succumbed to her injury.

This, her photograph can be seen at the hotel among certain artifacts that belonged to Sisi and if you dare you may request to stay in Sisi’s room.

This seems very familiar, oh, now I remember I was here last Saturday & here I go again!

I’m am super fortunate to be 1 of 8 Virtuoso Agents out of Canada to be invited on a of 🇨🇭 familiarization trip and by those who know it best! The Switzerland Tourism Board.

I have been sending clients to the beautiful country of Switzerland for many years and now it’s my turn. Excited, YES! Thankful, YES, & Grateful, 100% for this opportunity to experience switzerland first hand.

Opportunities like this allow me to better understand the country, its transportation systems, the culture, history & its cuisine & so much more all so I can curate even better and more epic travel itineraries for my clients.

It’s going to be a busy jam packed week to get it all in. The flights, rail travel, hotels and touring with early mornings and late nights but I’m up for the challenge!

Stay tuned as I post as often as I can so you may get a glimpse of the Grand Train Tour of Switzerland.

For now, I sit in the lounge and ponder what the week ahead will bring!
