Today, June 21, marks National Indigenous Peoples Day, a significant part of National Indigenous History Month. On this occasion, we honour the enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples on this land. Their teachings, stewardship, and way of life have shaped the unique identity of our city and country alike. We encourage residents to deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture as we move forward together, with respect, harmony, and dignity for Indigenous Peoples. Are you ready for Saturday?! 🎉 🏳️‍🌈

We have a jam packed day!

Join us on the 2nd floor of the library for sign and button making (materials provided!)

Then, we will begin gathering at the library courtyard at 12, handing out BBQ vouchers, flags, doing chalk drawing, and more!

At 1 we will begin by giving a little speech, thanking and welcoming you! Then we will begin the main event - the MARCH! The roads will be closed and we will all walk and show our pride together. By the people, for the people.

The March goes down the Couchiching Beach Park, where we will gather at the large pavilion (inside the Terry Fox Circle).

We will gather for a BBQ, provided by Harveys! (While supplies last) and drinks and snacks donated by the Sharing Place.

We will be wrapped up around 4 pm. Feel free to bring lawn games and activities to enjoy!

The City of Orillia is pleased to announce that one of the city’s most iconic streets is being renamed in honour of one of the city’s most iconic citizens, Gordon Lightfoot.

At its meeting on April 22, 2024, Orillia Council authorized a by-law to rename Centennial Drive to Lightfoot Drive.

The renaming of Centennial Drive to Lightfoot Drive is taking immediate effect. Over the next few weeks the City will be making changes to official maps and listings and updating road signage.

To further commemorate this new tribute to Gordon Lightfoot, the City of Orillia will also be installing banners depicting Lightfoot and some of his greatest hits along the entirety of Lightfoot Drive later this spring.

Happy Earth Day!

Here at the OOH, we work hard to make our every day services as zero waste as possible. Here are a few things our front of house staff has proudly implemented to contribute to a greener Orillia:

🌎 Tickets are emailed for mobile scanning, cutting down on paper waste.
🌎 All of our drinkware and food packaging is compostable! Coffee cups, lids, stir sticks, glasses, cookie wraps, and even DWN Chocolate candy wrappings are composted!
🌎 We source locally-made products as much as possible in either recyclable or compostable packaging, featuring Quayle's Brewery, Coco's Cookies, DWN Chocolate, Hammond Baking Co., and a variety of Ontario-made coolers!
🌎 Installed a free-to-use water refill station for your reusable water bottles.
🌎 If you forgot to bring your reusable bottle, we offer recyclable canned Ontario water at concessions, cutting back on plastic waste.
🌎 Throughout our theatre, you'll notice a number of easy-access recycling and compost bins available with guides to help you handle your waste properly. Not sure where something goes? One of our staff will be happy to help!

Did you know? In celebration of Earth Day, the City of Orillia - Municipality is offering free public transit today. Visit the following link to learn more: https://www.orillia.ca/en/news/Celebrate_Earth_Day_in_Orillia.aspx
